Kevin Cheng Denies Body is Ridden With Health Problems

Forty-five-year-old Kevin Cheng’s (鄭嘉穎) health has remained a concern since his old injuries caught up with him. Kevin recently completed filming TVB’s drama Eye in the Sky <天眼> and director Alfred Cheung’s (張堅庭) film, My Poor Rich Father <貧窮富爸爸> and was speculated to have decreased his workload due to his declining health state.

“Ip Man” Caused Injuries

While filming Ip Man <葉問> in 2012, Kevin’s health took a hard hit due to his lack of martial arts background. He suffered  severe injuries to his right eye and right leg, cervical displacement, and lower back strain.

Without adequate rest between filming projects afterward, an insider claimed that Kevin’s health was fragile, “At the time, the swelling of his eye lessened, so he thought nothing of it. But his eyeball always hurt; his vision kept getting blurrier; and he always saw halos. After filming Ip Man, he went to the doctor again and found that he had an orbital fracture and a cut on his cornea. This affected his vision. Although he [Kevin] seems fine outwardly, in truth, he can now only see out of one eye.”

Takes Hiatus to Regain Health

Apart from his old injuries, Kevin also suffers from congenital diabetes and mild hypertension. Although Kevin was scheduled to participate in two Mainland dramas in February and July, the severity of his old injuries allegedly forced Kevin to withdraw his participation. Instead, he has been resting in Hong Kong to allow his body to recover from his accumulated injuries.

Kevin Denies Reported Health Decline

Speaking with the press today, Kevin denied the extremity of recent reports claiming his ill health. He said, “I don’t have any problems. These type of tabloid reports are common and not to be believed. I’m fine. My filming projects now are based on quality and not quantity, that’s why I only film one drama in Hong Kong each year. I spend the rest of my time filming overseas.”

  1. Hope he get’s well soon… he’s doing a good job keeping up and he doesn’t look like a middle-age man. One of the few actors who know how to act and is modest.

  2. Wow. I want to believe he’s telling the truth about his health, cause otherwise, I feel extremely bad for him… 🙁

It’s good he’s taking it slow now.

  3. Oh eight prince….. but seriously, always take care of your health first.

  4. Artists is taking jobs left and right. They should enjoy life because life is short.

  5. 八爷 is unforgettable.
he has aged quite a little compared to other actors in the same age group.

    1. agree with you anon…kevin cheng was so handsome before his 八爷 days….ok, he was still handsome as 八爷.
many tvb actors went to mainland to earn more money…so that could have taken a toil.

    2. Agree! Kevin used to be very youthful and handsome in his 30’s. He ages very fast when he work more in mainland. Now Raymond Cho looks younger! It’s sad too that all his mainland work after BBJX flopped or not gettinh hit. IP Man has a big budget but failure.

      1. Not all of his mainland work are flopped. They cant become big hit but some still has not too low rating.

However, he wasnt too carefully when choosing script to act in. I still think his decision to act in Hua Xi Yan was a bad one. He doesnt fit the role. Hua Xi Yan may create scandal to make it famous but at the same time, KC faced the criticisms of novel fans. Looking at the trailer, I think he is very odd to the role Mu Yan. His bad luck started with Hua Xi Yan.

Raymond Cho is ageless monster, lol. He is younger than all of the 1964 guys in HK.

      2. Toby, I hated watching him in Ip Man. The drama was sooooo boring and he didn’t fit the role. From that drama on, I lost interest in him. Let’s see how he fares in Sky Eye.

      3. I don’t even know where to watch Kevin’s Ip Man. It wasn’t well received or hit at all. No discussion whatsoever when it was airing except a few bad reviews here and there.

  6. I’m glad Kevin knows how to look after himself. It’s good that he’s having a long rest now. Really, money isn’t everything! Hope all goes well with him.

  7. I have a feeling some of this may be true as we have seen photos of his injured leg and the time he was injured filming Ip Man. I hope it is not as serious as this report says. Take care of your health Kevin as all of the money in the world cannot buy back your health.

    1. Agree. Most of the times artistes will deny health issues because it can influence investors who mighy not want a sick artiste onboard their project.
