TVB to Replace Raymond Lam with Ruco Chan?
After the departure of Raymond Lam (林峯), TVB found it necessary to replace the void left by the highly popular actor. TVB has decided to place emphasis on promoting Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) due to his multi-talents and positive image.
Commenting on the rumors, Ruco humbly stated, “There are always people leaving and coming back. Every actor should work his hardest. If they want to promote an artiste, there are a lot of others they can promote – many work even harder than me. Everyone has his or her own road; it’s not possible to replace someone. My main focus is acting; I hope that I can gain the viewers’ acceptance.”
Ruco Hopes to Sing More Theme Songs
Next year, Ruco will have an opportunity to explore his music opportunities further. Ruco said he will only sing television theme songs at the moment.
“I’ve always wanted to sing. I’ve sung theme songs before and the audience seemed to have liked them. Recently, I haven’t been given such opportunities but if they arise again, I definitely want to sing more. I don’t necessarily have to become a singer because a lot of people who hold concerts aren’t professional singers. It’s important to entertain the audience and make them happy. If an actor can sing the theme and sub-theme songs, I think the audience will find it more appealing.”

Aside from Ruco, TVB also saw potential in turning younger artistes into bigger stars. Last year’s Miss Hong Kong winners Grace Chan (陳凱琳) and Sisley Choi (蔡思貝) are in the forefront of TVB’s promotional campaign and star in several upcoming dramas. TVB also favors Kenneth Ma (馬國明), Mandy Wong (黃智雯), Edwin Siu (蕭正楠), Priscilla Wong (黃翠如), Him Law (羅仲謙), Lin Xia Wei (林夏薇), Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪), and Brian Tse (謝東閔).

well, it is about time. Ruco is so talented and likeable. I don’t know why it hasn’t happened. truly, i think raymond lam acting is so so and his not charming like Ruco
Agree i think ruco is a better actor then Raymond, ruco can easily play bao seed and happy sir and any role Raymond has played but don’t think Raymond would be able to play some of ruco roles like Sam sir and Carson Chong

Totally agree. Ruco can play a villain, hero, comedian, cop, lawyer, gangster etc etc. He simply just immerse into each character he portrays. He’s so convincing in every role he plays. Raymond can only play goody roles. Plus Ruco has a good voice too. He’s just so talented and yet so humble.

Like what I’ve said before, Raymond has been there done that – he already had his peak and now it’s time to move on to something new esp since TVB is dying. Ruco can replace all he wants.
There is pretty minimal competition now compared to before since a lot of people seemed to have left, partially left, thinking of leaving etc.
There’s still lots of competition. Many second liners are being pushed up whether they’re ready or not. Competition doesn’t stop just becos the others have left. There’s always someone waiting in the wings to replace you. Happens everywhere, not just in showbiz which is even more cut throat and competitive.
Of course there will always be new people taking over and yes there is still competition between the ones being promoted now, but what I meant was strong competition – I probably wasn’t clear. To me, some of the people being promoted are just so-so

Tvbfan, you must be very young. Age is just a number. There are people who look young for their age and those who look old even though their age is young. Look at Michael Miu who still looks fab at 56. What about Andy Lau, Louis Koo, Nick Cheung from HK and Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp from Hollywood? All are older than Ruco and still look good and are A-listers. Going beyond numbers and physical appearance, age gives a man a certain aura of masculinity lacking in younger guys in their 20s. Many people swooned over Ruco in The Other Truth. Compared to him now, 4 years later, I say he looks even hotter in Brother’s Keeper, ATIBIS and the upcoming COD. The older Ruco exudes more confidence and has an aura of masculine charm lacking in him when he was in his 20s and even early 30s. He keeps fit with various sports. He would be one of the guys who age gracefully and look good into his 40s. 40s is the new 30s especially for guys. They are still considered in their prime. As for who’s better in singing and acting, this is highly subjective. To each his own.
Michael and Wayne are still leading actors in younger roles I feel ruco will do just fine.

He now exudes a masculinity lacking in many younger guys and even some of the other current TVB leading man. He exudes this quiet confidence and charming persona which I find it so sexy. His sportiness, humility and great personality makes him even sexier. I think he will become even hotter as he ages. There are more women who swoon over him now compared to 4 years ago when The Other Truth shot him to superstardom. We just can’t get enough of Ruco!!!

I love how he never hogs the limelight and like a gentleman always allows others to have their say before him, unlike some others who just love to bask in the limelight all the time. I enjoy listening to his interviews cos I love the sound of his voice and also becos he strikes me as a deep thinker; certainly not someone frivolous. He is truly a “suen poon”.

Think we can be BFFs considering how much we adore Ruco (LOL)…for his excellent acting, good voice, sportiness, great personality, humility etc and how he values friendship (he attends gatherings of his former ATV colleagues and store openings without appearance fee…these people obviously will not add any value or help him in his career at TVB). He is indeed a deep thinker who speaks intelligently at interviews. He usually will pause and think what he has to say (evident from body language of his past interviews). He also never hogs the limelight with others at interviews, always allowing others to speak first. His co-stars have also commented that he is a hardworking and helpful colleague who often helps them to get into character and reads into the scripts/roles of his co-stars too. He is never selfish and is always sharing with others. He is such a rare gem !!
Hey RC, I totally agree with all you’ve said about Ruco. Whether we’re new or old fans, we all love him for the same reasons you mentioned. He’s not just a handsome face but someone who is genuine and nice. I noticed too that he keeps in touch with ex- colleagues from Atv and those he mixes with are not particularly famous or well connected. He’s such a breath of fresh air to treasure his friends beyond what they can offer him in monetary terms or benefits/favors to be obtained from them. Certainly one of the rare ones in showbiz. I hope that going forward Tvb can cast him in bigger productions and give him better costars. It’s so unfair to make him babysit all the time. I’d like to see him face off with Wayne, Roger, Moses. I think it’ll be awesome.

Yeah..a face-off with Wayne and Roger will be awesome. Not too crazy about Moses though. Thought I read somewhere that he doesn’t think much of Ruco and thinks that Ruco is not worthy to be cast alongside him (but this could be made up by the paparazzi). It’s true that Ruco is always made to babysit newbies or cast alongside 2nd line co-stars. Coz TVB knows his drawing power and he is always the saving grace for the small productions that he’s been in. Example, OL and ATIBIS wasn’t that great a storyline but he sure lit up the screen each time he appears. Think most viewers tuned in to watch the 2 dramas becoz of him. Kudos to the producers who were smart enough to cast him in these 2 productions. My only wish is that Ruco can break into the silver screen and hopefully cut an album or have his own mini concert. He definitely deserves more than just staying on the small screen, given his talent and all the hard work that he has put in all these years.

I like Mandy Wong…want TVB to promote her too…however, every year, there are some miss HK, young (pretty or not is depend)…so TVB has more choice on female actress, but no many choice on male artist.

Ruco deserves better promotion, he’s a rare gem, not to say replacing anyone. Both Ruco and Raymond’s response were good and they show respect for each other.
I knew it from the beginning when Raymond left. I told you guys didn’t I? I said TVB trying to promote Ruco to be the next LF because TVB lack 1st leading strong actors and actress.
I am more worried about the females. If tvb future depends on sisley Choi or Lin xia Wei I don’t see anything good about the future.
