Daniel Wu Doesn’t Mind Gay Romance with Louis Koo
Johnnie To’s (杜琪峰) new romantic comedy Don’t Go Breaking My Heart 2 <單身男女2 > was strategically released on 11/11 for China’s “Singles Day”. Louis Koo (古天樂), Gao Yuanyuan (高圓圓), and Daniel Wu (吳彥祖) return in the sequel to the 2011 box office hit. Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) and Vic Chou (周渝民) are new additions to the cast.
Louis Koo previously revealed that director Johnnie To harbors intentions of producing a third installment to the popular film franchise. Louis had boldly suggested a gay romance storyline between him and Daniel Wu in the third film. Daniel, who is no stranger in portraying homosexual characters, unhesitatingly agreed. “Sure! It’s not like I haven’t portrayed a gay character before. My first film debut revolved around gay romance. It was even earlier than Brokeback Mountain. There’s nothing to be afraid of. I can kiss Louis if needed too.”
In 1998, Daniel Wu starred in director Yonfan‘s (楊凡) Bishonen <美少年之戀>. Revolving around an ill-fated gay romance, Daniel shared many artful intimate scenes with good friend Stephen Fung (馮德倫),
Now an experienced father, Daniel was asked if he will share baby tips with the newly-wedded Gao Yuanyuan. Daniel said, “You can’t force someone over these matters. If you haven’t experienced it, you will not understand the pressures of having a child. So it is best to go with the flow.”

Daniel Wu is a great actor and never cares what the media says about him. He’s not afraid to take on various roles that challenge him as an ACTOR as opposed to an all round entertainer always thinking about his image.
I guess it helps that he was born and raised in a country like the United States so his outlook is less narrow minded.
The only person I can think of who wasn’t afraid to play gay is Tony Leung but no one ever says he’s gay.
Real actors like these are hard to find, especially in HK cinema nowadays. It’s no wonder most film makers are kissing Mainland China’s ass lol
I wouldn’t mind seeing Daniel and Louis as a gay couple. Louis has never played a gay character before. But, I would rather they play gay couple in another movie than the 3rd installment of ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’. The 2 characters, especially Daniel are so in love with Gao Yuan Yuan. It won’t be logical or realistic to suddenly turn gay
