Tony Hung Denies Discord with Ruco Chan
TVB anniversary drama Captain of Destiny <張保仔> will be premiering on September 21. In this time traveling tale about 19th century pirates, Tony Hung (洪永城) portrays the titular pirate Cheung Po Tsai, and Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) portrays Cheung’s longstanding opponent, the Eleventh Imperial Prince of Qing. When production first began, Raymond Wong (黃浩然) was cast to play the title role, but the actor had to withdraw from the series a week into filming due to health problems. Tony was called in last-minute to replace him.
Upset with this casting decision, it was said by gossip reports that Ruco treated Tony coldly throughout the duration of the six-month long shooting. Ruco was, allegedly, unhappy with Tony playing the central character, thus having more screen time than him.
Hearing this rumor, Tony laughed and said, “The writers did not add more screen time just for me. Nothing much from the original story was changed.” Asking if he and Ruco were friends, Tony said Captain of Destiny is their third collaboration. “We are friends. We have things to talk and laugh about. But recently, [Ruco] has been shooting Heroes of the Walled City <城寨英雄>. Maybe because he’s into character, so he’s been rather cool. He has to do fight scenes all day long, so he’s not as energetic as he used to be.”
Rumors say that Ruco got so angry with Tony for fooling around on set that he scolded, “This isn’t an amusement park!” Upon hearing this, Tony expressed, “I’ve never heard him say that. I heard him say he wanted to treat everyone to nighttime snacks the most.”
Would this rumor shatter his friendship with Ruco? “Not at all. We still keep in contact.” Is Ruco a rather serious character? “He is my senior and we should be more serious in everything we do. When it comes to acting, I have many things to learn from him.”
