Chilam Cheung and Charmaine Sheh Didn’t Want to Film “Return of the Cuckoo” Sequel
The cast of romance film Return of the Cuckoo <十月初五的月光>, including Chilam Cheung (張智霖) and Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), attended a press conference for the film in Beijing. The movie, directed by Patrick Kong (葉念琛), is a sequel of the 2000 TVB drama hit Return of the Cuckoo, taking place 15 years after the original TV series.
The movie brings back most of the original cast members, including Chilam, Charmaine, Nancy Sit (薛家燕), and Michael Tong (唐文龍). It also introduces a new character, portrayed by Joe Chen (陳喬恩).
At the press conference, Chilam and Charmaine shared that they initially did not want to film the sequel. Charmaine said, “I was in a mix of emotions when I first received the film offer. I was worried that my performance would not live up to the original television drama, but I decided to film it after reading the script. The story is very touching.”
Charmaine added that the original television drama, which is currently rebroadcasting on TVB Jade, has been receiving good reviews and ratings. “Because of this, I feel confident in the box office,” she said. On her thoughts about Joe Chen’s addition to the cast, Charmaine said, “She’s a great addition!”
Chilam shared the same sentiments as Charmaine. He said, “I was about to reject the film as well. It’s been 15 years after the television drama after all, and I was worried that there wouldn’t be enough material to continue the story. But the script touched me in the end!”
In the movie, there will be a love triangle between Charmaine, Chilam, and Joe. How does it feel to be the loved by two women? Chilam said, “It feels great! Joe Chen is a fantastic partner. Her acting sucks you in!”
The movie Return of the Cuckoo will be opening in Hong Kong on November 12, and Mainland China on November 20.

What? Who is Joe Chen? Why not a Hong Kong actress instead? Why can’t we have anything just purely Hong Kong nowadays? I wouldn’t mind if it was a different movie but this is a sequel of one of the dramas I loved so much. Needs to keep that original feeling. So are they gonna speak Mandarin in the movie too? It’s gonna be a failure! So dump!!!

The adding is a fair game! Man Cho suffered for many years for loving/waiting/sacrificing Kwan Ho. She had her happy ending with her husband Lai-sun and 2 children (I don’t know how will they deal with this part in the movie.) Fifteen years later, she got back and realized that she still loved him (?) and this time I think it’s time for her to fight back for her love, after leaving Mancho for so many years…
@augustwentie It’s a disappointment that they won’t bring back the entire cast for the film. The original cast such as Steven ma, Lau Dan and Mannor Chan, Sherming Yiu who acted as Michael Tong’s girlfriend and Chan Kar Yee, who acted as Kwok fung’s wife.
@unknown Yea I know but it’s been 15 years and it won’t be easy to bring back everyone, if I’m not mistaken Steven Ma decided to put a hold on his career because of his heart condition (?), for Laudan and Mannor Chan, pretty much they can’t develop any plot because from the last episode I believe Mannor went crazy. I guess in this movie version they want to focus in the “love triangle” but well I still wonder what would they do with Steven Ma’s character (divorce, death) Tbh, I took this series as a tragedy, everything was a mess, so many lives were lost and sometimes happy ending doesn’t go to good people
@augustwentie wasn’t the ending for the series show that Steven died? Been a very long time but I thought the ending scene was her at his graveyard? I’m getting old…
@happybi oh no Steven didn’t die LOL I guess the graveyard was someone else (oh as I’m typing this I think it was her older cousin, the kind guy who died in car crash) then she took her kid to somewhere then heard a sound from Man Cho 😀
