Kenny Wong Paid Girlfriend $300,000 to Open Store
Kenny Wong Tak Bun was known to treat his girlfriend, Joyce Wong Mei Yan, well. The pair have been dating for ten years and live together in a Sai Kung village home. Over the years, Kenny always handled his relationship in a low-key manner.
After 2006’s “Dance of Passion” (火舞黃沙), Kenny’s popularity peaked. The media exposed Kenny’s relationship with Joyce at that time. Although Kenny was involved in romantic rumors with “Dance of Passion” co-star, Maggie Shiu Mei Kei, Kenny and Joyce’s relationship remained strong over the years.
Previously, Joyce worked in an office administration position. In order to raise money to open the store, Kenny sold Joyce and his Alfa Romeo 156 cars to raise $300,000 (HKD). Coupled with Joyce’s own personal savings, there was enough money to open the clothing store, “Flame.”
When Kenny does not have to film, he is often spotted purchasing inventory for the store with Joyce. Allegedly, Kenny is not knowledgeable about fashion retail nor business operations, however is often spotted helping arrange the clothes at the store. Although the store is only 100 square feet, the business seemed to be brisk.
Kenny often has supporting roles in films and TVB series. However his income was not much due to limited screen time. Due to his shy personality, this has affected his advancement. An insider said, “Kenny is very hard working. He puts a lot of effort into all his roles. But he does not know how to brownnose the producers and executive managers. He does not go to networking dinners often. Although his recognition increased, his work load has not. That’s why he had to sell the cars in order to raise money for Joyce’s store.”
