Sammul Chan Forsakes Millions for Health
In recent years, Sammul Chan (陳鍵鋒) headed to mainland China to advance his career and to dig for “gold.” Filming series after series, Sammul was dehydrated for three months during his recent filming in Hengdian. Besides getting “fried” under the scorching sun, Sammul even lost twenty pounds. Sammul’s manager couldn’t bear seeing him enduring under such tough conditions and rejected another Mainland drama, Princess Taiping <太平公主>, thus losing the opportunity of earning a seven figure filming fee!
Ever since leaving TVB and venturing outside, Sammul has been centralizing and advancing his career in mainland. Earlier on, while filming mainland drama, In Search of The Supernatural <搜神記> in Hengdian, due to the extreme conditions of the local weather being like a burning furnace, the average temperature could go up to 35 degrees Celsius. Since the sun was blazing hot the entire day, within a short filming span of three months, Sammul had dropped from his initial 170 pounds to 150 pounds. Furthermore, Sammul was even burnt to a battered state, with such tough conditions and losing 20 pounds in the process. It was no wonder Sammul couldn’t adapt well!
Rejects Drama to Avoid Over-Exhaustion
It was known that after completing filming for the drama In Search of the Supernatural, Sammul was arranged to accept filming for Princess Taiping which starred Alyssa Chia (賈靜雯) and Zheng Shuang (鄭爽). However, it was a pity then that his manager couldn’t bear to see him being over-exhausted and rejected filming Princess Taiping, thus losing an opportunity to earn a seven figure sum. In addition to that, Sammul was scheduled to start filming for Sonjia Kwok’s (郭羨妮) fiancé, Zhu Shaojie (朱少杰)’s production work, Beauty In A Restless Era <亂世佳人> thus he needed more ample time to prepare.
Say Sorry to Pave a Road for the Future
As for losing the chance to earn a seven figure sum, Sammul responded, “Money can be earned again. Health is the most important. Previously I was sun burnt until I was stick thin. I was so thin until even my mom couldn’t recognize me!” Sammul who always had a broad world outlook in life, even apologized to the drama team behind Princess Taiping, “I’m very sorry and hope to continue working with them the next time!”

Over exhaustion? But he wasn’t in many series at all! Shouldn’t he be more exhausted when in TVB or maybe TVB really hasn’t been using him enough?? Why so relaxed? Opportunities gone for him is a gained opportunity for another!
I believe Sam’s nickname used to be something like tofu boy.
Now we see why it isn’t easy to earn money in the mainland either.
Not 3rd cat?
It’s not the number of series. It’s the filming condition.
Hope the 搜神記 this time won’t be as bad as Legend of Demigod of TVB. This one ruined the all 搜神記. But I dun put too high hope.
I’m talking about the 搜神記 novel. Although it’s a so-so novel only but the character system of 搜神記 is quite nice. 树下野狐 has nice imagination but low writing skill. Zhu Tian is more famous due to this reason. Same to Tian Su.
Sad to hear that Sammul won’t be in Tai Ping Gong Zhu, however, his health is more important. Glad to hear that ALyssa Jia Jing Wen is acting again. I have not seen her in a long time. But yea, health is WAY more important than money. I hope that Sammul gets plenty of rest before his next series…. Hope to see him in more great productions. Best wishes to Sammul!!
You get paid more working in mainland but the filming conditions are usually very harsh compared to TVB and the celebs from HK aren’t used to it. It is harder to adapt to. I usually see either how hot or cold it is when I watch China series. In many series, when they talk, you can see “smoke” coming from their mouth since it is so cold. The weather and conditions in HK don’t seem as bad, however, it is just that TVB overworks their artists. In CHina you get decent rest but have to deal with the harsh conditions. I guess you get some and you lose some…
Huh? A lot of ppl in TVB like Gallen, Roger, Charmaine, etc. said that the filming conditions in China is easier than with TVB. With TVB, they might have to work few days with only 1-2 hours of rest per day, but in China, they always have 6-10 hours to rest each day.
The weather might be a factor but they always have warm clothes before a scene. And the ladies will be affected by the weather more than the guys because their model clothes are always lesser.
Not necessarily… It all depends on what you mean by filming conditions… If you are talking about the time of rest and filming schedule and all, then China is definately better. But in terms of the actual environment, overall conditions, weather, etc… then Hk is better. Also, when the artists are in HK, they are mainly filming in TVB city for the most part while in China, they have to film in a variety of different places so they have to face a lot of the weather changes and other things. In China, they have to work with a big variety of celebs from all different regions of China and even some celebs from Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, etc. Therefore, they may or may not get along with each other. I remember reading a long time ago that celebs from Hk, China and Taiwan had to all work on a series together and had problems getting along. However, due to the series they had to settle their differences. I know that this can occur in TVB too,but since most(if not all) of them are from HK they may be able to get along better…
