Shu Qi on Pregnancy: “Can’t Talk About It in the First Trimester”

Shu Qi (舒淇) flew to Hong Kong and attended her first event since marrying Stephen Fung (馮德倫) in September. Rumored to be pregnant since her marriage, Shu Qi appeared uncomfortable, but hinted that a baby may soon be on the way. The 40-year-old actress admits that she wants to take a break in 2017 and become a mother.

At the Golden Horse Awards earlier, Taiwanese artiste Matilda Tao (陶晶瑩) gently placed her hand on Shu Qi’s stomach stirring up more pregnancy speculations. Asked if Shu Qi is holding a grudge against her friend, Shu Qui laughed, “Of course not – she was only joking.”

Shu Qi added, “I know everyone is very worried about me and want me to have a baby soon. However, I want to let things flow naturally. Everyone keeps asking if I’m pregnant but I think the Chinese always say it’s not good to reveal your pregnancy until after the third month. Lying is bad – please, to everyone who is curious, please stop asking me. Thank you.”

Shu Qi admitted that she hopes to start a family soon. When asked about her plans for 2017, she said, “I’ve always wanted to retire, but I haven’t made a firm decision yet.” Asked what she would do if she does not film movies anymore, Shu Qi smiled and said, “I’ll have a baby.”

  1. Not just a Chinese tradition. Better to announce anything until first trimester. Wishing her the best!!!
