Xiao Zhan Maintains Secrecy for New Movie Role
Xiao Zhan (肖戰) rose to stardom alongside Wang Yibo (王一博) in the hit drama The Untamed <陳情令>, cementing both as top male stars in Chinese dramas. Following this, Xiao Zhan starred in several popular dramas, including Joy of Life, The Longest Promise <玉骨遙>, and Sunshine By My Side <驕陽伴我>. His latest costume drama, The Legend of the Hidden Sea <藏海傳>, co-starring Zhang Jingyi (張婧儀) as the female lead, has already generated buzz before even airing.
Xiao Zhan’s Challenging New Role
Xiao Zhan’s new film, De Xian Jin Zhi <得閑謹制>, recently wrapped up shooting, but recent photos from the opening ceremony surfaced, showing him in a casual look with a black cap, a plain black T-shirt, and a bit of stubble. Rumor has it that 27-year-old Zhou Yiran (周依然), known for Go East <四方館>, will play the female lead, sparking high expectations among fans.
De Xiao Jin Zhi is set in a small, seemingly idyllic town, where refugees who escaped to the area after Nanjing fell have settled for years. One day, several Japanese soldiers accidentally enter the town, pushing the male lead, Mo Dexian (Xiao Zhan), and his relatives and friends to the brink, forcing them to fight back against the well-armed intruders. This unequal battle of will and wits sets off a tense and relentless showdown. Produced by the renowned studio Daylight Entertainment, this is their first film, and Xiao Zhan’s role is a new character type for him, making fans particularly curious. Keeping his look under wraps, the actor has been dressing in regular clothes to and from set.
The photos from the movie’s opening ceremony show Xiao Zhan in black attire with a bare face and slight stubble, igniting fan praise for his natural looks. Based on the story outline, fans speculate that Xiao Zhan’s stubble may be part of preparing for the role, and speculated that his look will become more rugged and disheveled once filming begins as the story involves brutal confrontations with Japanese soldiers and tragic scenes of loved ones being harmed.
Xiao Zhao to Collab with Shu Qi
Notably, Xiao Zhan is rumored to take on another new film project, My Answer <我的答案>, where he is expected to collaborate with Shu Qi (舒淇), who once served as his acting mentor on a talent show. In My Answer, Xiao Zhan will reportedly play a suspect with villainous traits for the first time, raising fan excitement.
The film, directed by Hong Kong director Philip Yung (翁子光), a multiple nominee for the Golden Horse and Hong Kong Film Awards, follows prosecutor Wu Yamei as she navigates immense pressure to track down and bring a criminal to justice. Xiao Zhan is expected to play the main suspect in one of the cases explored in the film.
