Myolie Wu’s Breakthrough Role in “Rosy Business 3”
Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) openly admitted that her character in Rosy Business 3: No Reserve <巾幗梟雄之諜血長天> is one of her most challenging roles yet. Her character was raped in the series, and Myolie suffered from mood swings while filming No Reserve. Due to the success of the first two installments, Myolie gave herself a lot of pressure and hopes not to disappoint viewers.
Myolie Suffers from Insomnia
Myolie said, “The atmosphere of this drama is very heavy and dark. In No Reserve, I have to witness death of family members and friends as well as become an undercover spy. It’s a big toll on the mind because you’re constantly trying to get into character. And because of all this pressure, I’ve suffered from intense insomnia.”
However, Myolie mentioned that even though she suffers from mood swings and sleepless nights, it is rewarding to see her hard work pay off whenever she watches her playbacks. One of the scenes included a solo scene with six-pages of dialogue in which she cries and talks non-stop. After finishing it in one solid take, Myolie was highly emotional due to the satisfaction of seeing how she performed.
Since No Reserve is taking a considerable amount of time to film, it will not be aired along with the 2013 anniversary series, The Hippocratic Crush II <On Call 36小時Ⅱ>, and Will Power <傳愛事務所>, but instead will be scheduled for 2014 release. On this matter, Myolie said that since TVB’s already airing Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II>, she is satisfied with her work this year. Myolie hopes that her role in No Reserve will gain the audience’s approval in the 2014.
In order to recuperate, Myolie said she will be taking a vacation after completing No Reserve. She happily said, “I already have my flight booked! I’m excited to take a break. After my vacation, I’ll be very busy because of the filming I have lined up in Beijing.”
Filming Under Insane Weather Conditions
It may be a blazing hot summer day, but it does not deter the cast of No Reserve as they are seen filming under a high of 37 degrees in the middle of the day. Wayne Lai (黎耀祥), who has to film a war scene, stated that he has gotten considerably darker but does not mind because that way, he could look like a second Louis Koo (古天樂). Wayne also added, “Because of the heat, I felt pretty faint during the first couple of days, but I’ve gotten used to it now. Myolie’s even more impressive! She’s so patient and she hasn’t even complained once about the nasty weather. Actresses like her are rare these days!”
During the entire time, Wayne showered Myolie with compliments on her professionalism and acting abilities. Wayne states that Myolie’s role is heavier than his and he hopes that with this opportunity, her career could advance even further.

Bullet Brain was aired in late of Q3 – early Q2 of 2013….it has been too long to see Wayne’s performance since then. Plus the next drama of him is gonna be in late Q4, right? I am missing him so much!!! I want to see Wayne!!!! Looking forward to Will Power and No Reserve.

I see Myolie over and over and over again as well as the rest of the regulars who act for TVB. Therefore, it does not only apply to Wayne. I actually have not seen a series with Wayne in awhile so hope to see him again soon.
I want to see Wayne again, but not always these type of heavy genre. It’s great that he’s in Will Power, a less heavy drama, and set in modern times. He should stop filming these type of heavy production series.

TVB is like that, they always use other drama titles for promotional purpose. They aren’t that creative at all.

Maybe I am a sucker for gimmicks but Rosy Business the first installment really stuck in my mind as one of my favorites, so I feel more eager to watch this when it is named Rosy Business rather than some other new title.

This is a heavy drama, younger generations cannot handle these roles at all, as they are not experienced on these roles. It will be a huge risk to get young Siu Sung to be casted as male lead in this type of heavy drama.

Well, I think he did well in bullet brain. It was the weak female lead that dragged down the series. Being the lead has their limit, and does not have much freedom as a supporting character. But Myolie exaggerates too much, the only role that I liked was her role in Golden faith & triumph in the skies 1, which she is also a supporting character too. Then I think she should go back being a supporting character.

Rosy Business & No regret has both Sheren & Wayne in it, that’s what make it good. Now the so called RB3 has only Wayne, which will lose its power.
A good series does not only rely on the cast. It has to have a good storyline/plot, script and many other factors. Sorry but a good cast cannot guarantee that a series will be good.

Agree that the castings arent everything (look at BAW 2 – great cast with good acting, but it is just so BORING).
I just dont want to watch another Bullet Brain, it is bad enough that the script does not make sense, but the horrible acting really kills it for me.
I also dont like the era… but because of wayne Lai and Myolie… will give it a try. And I think Edwin is good as villain like he was in Steps (dont know the full name). I think Edwin Siu is quite versatile in his acting now. I start to like seeing him in tv series.
Myolie is one of the actress that I’m still confused about. She never appealed to me as a great actress though it’s probably because she was given limited roles. I honestly can’t remember the last series of hers I actually watched thoroughly. She’s either the damsel in distress or the overconfident type, I just can’t place her in what type of actress she is. I know she got the potential to do well but I just don’t know what type of role will suit her, so far many of the other leads has found their place as an actress but not Myolie. I’m not trying to diss her in any way, she seems like a very lovely woman but it’s just very hard to place her in a certain role that’s in her comfort zone and is suitable for her to act out and the audience to watch.
Her role in this sounds too heavyweight for her which makes me have second thoughts on whether she can actually succeed or not. I wasn’t exactly a huge fan of the previous RB series which is probably why I made this opinion but either way it seems like she put in a lot of effort into this role and that should be respected. I hope she will find a role that is suitable for her and maybe this will be it. Thinking back the only role that I find likeable from in these recent years is in The Rippling Blossom. For some reason her past heavyweight roles weren’t done so well, I just don’ think that’s the appropriate production for her. She seems to do a bit better in the less heavyweight productions, I do look forward to her role in Triumph In The Skies 2…for some reason I think she tends to do well in roles that doesn’t have much dialogue or dramatic emotional scenes.

The producer of Curse Of The Royal Harem also said the same thing but look what happened to that…turned out to be her worst role and she won an award for that.

I agree with Austin as well. I never felt that Myolie is that good of an actress and can only play certain roles/characters only. I also feel that the producer is taking a big chance to cast her in such a heavy role. I have a lot of confidence that Sharen could have handled it, but I wonder if Myolie can or not… However, lets wait and see… She may surprise us, who knows??

We can’t compare Sheren Tang’s acting with Myolie Wu’s ……. not the same class yet. Hopefully Myolie Wu will be able to prove to us in “Rosy Business 3” that she can also act well. Perhaps with her co-star, 3-time TV King Wayne Lai, Myolie will have some breakthrough in this drama series.

Actually, LTS himself said after the two different ways they (sheren and wayne) have “loved” in RB 1 and RB2, he do not know how to continue the story for a breakthrough.
And also, RB3 would have a part about first love (i believe this is about edwin and myolie?), unless you want to see chai gau and miss gau wearing school uniforms.. It would be hard to pull off.

Personally, I kinda suspect that Sheren was excluded from RB3 less because of any “creative” reasons and more because her relationship with TVB seems to have soured (which was apparent during the mini-storm over her comments about Beauty At War), and Lee Tim Shing’s comments about wanting to tell a story about “first love” and so on are basically after the fact.
That said, I don’t really buy LTS’s comments that he can’t breakthrough or continue the story if he reused the Sheren/Wayne pairing. There are many types of relationships other than those portrayed in RB1 and RB2, the crux is whether he is adamant about writing certain types of relationships only. For one, Sheren and Wayne have yet to portray a married couple, but it seems TVB isn’t that keen on writing married couple storylines (e.g. see TITS2 killing off Zoe to pave the way for Francis/Fala/Chilam love triangle).
(Actually, if LTS really wants to breakthrough and contrast with RB2, not sure why he decided to reuse the same historical setting of the Sino-Japanese War for RB3. The descriptions I’ve read of RB3 so far make it sound like a retread of RB2 but with more “heavy taste” torture and rape scenes.)
If sheren and tvb’s relationship has already soured when RB3 was announced, she wont be invited to star in aerobic girls in the following months? Unless you are implying that sheren rejected AG due to the breakdown of their relationship. But according to sheren, she received no invitation or call about RB3 at all, when the news came out that her demands about RB3 was over the top.
And yes, tvb doesnt like to write sequels about married couples, which is why im surprised tavia doesnt die in OC2.
I’m aware Sheren wasn’t invited to film RB3 at all, but I think the reason she wasn’t invited in the first place was because at that point of time TVB already wasn’t interested in working with her, maybe because of what transpired during production of BAW, or maybe simply because she’s no longer on contract. But anyway, it’s just idle speculation on my part. But then again there are many executives at TVB who don’t necessarily seem to agree with each other, like how during the airing of BAW one exec claimed they were going to “boycott” Sheren and then Virginia Lok claiming there was no such thing.
But I also think what LTS says can’t be taken at face value since, if memory serves, he has ever denied that there would be more series in the RB franchise when there were previous rumours about TVB filming RB3.
Aerobic Girls seems to be a bit of an anomaly since it’s produced by Eric Tsang and the stars aren’t TVB’s usual suspects.

Cara, the role is more tang wei than femme fatale. Like undergrad-turned-spy. I will only think sheren would have problem with the university student portrayal. While myolie is not that young herself, she will be more convincing in that aspect
If, hypothetically, Sheren were cast in RB3, they would likely amend the role or tailormake an age-appropriate role for her. So I personally feel the would-Myolie-or-Sheren-act-better-as-a-better-seductive-spy argument is kind of moot.
I know that the Rosy Business name is closely associated with Sheren so it seems like the role would suit her, but if you ignore the name and read about the character, it doesn’t fit Sheren at all. We can’t judge the acting yet since it has not aired but the character is supposed to be younger and able to seduce different men. Sheren is a great actress and looks great, but it would still be weird seeing a lady in her 40s trying to seduce all these young men.

To be honest, I am not looking forward to this series at all because of the poor casts and not sure if the story will be even that great, cuz it’s the same scriptwriter as Bullet Brain.
The first two installments were great, and will always be the best.
I like all the people involved, but I kinda agree since it does seem like it would be too dark. The happier family dramas are easier to swallow so I’m not sure how the HK audience would be receptive to a lot of deaths and rape, even though it is based on history.
I think TVB needs to do a lot of promotion for this show or do clift hangers ending of every episode so that ppl are looking forward to the next one???

TVB is just using the Rosy Business title for promotional purposes. This so called RB3 is not even connected with the actual Rosy Business series. TVB, why don’t you just cancel out the 巾幗梟雄, and call it 諜血長天 instead. This really have nothing to do with RB1&2

“巾幗梟雄”means a female hero (usually) during war time. 巾幗 is for female, and 梟雄 means a hero during war (or crime) time.

no regrets also not connected to rosy business except only wayne and sheren. so no reserve can also stand on its own.
Although not directly connected, but you can see some scenes that they have taken out from Rosy Business and have migrated to No regret, giving viewers a sense that the two are related.

I am looking for this series to see how good it is compared to RB 1,2. I watched Bullet Brain; Wayne was not good compared to his previous series but not too bad as people’s comments. I hope he will do good in Will Power and RB 3. For me Wayne acting is still better than Ruco and Kenneth Ma.

Even though Sheren Tang is better than Myoli Wu in acting but MW is suitable for this role and I think she will be very good in this series. However I am still waiting for a series in which Wayne and Sheren tang will be leading actor and actress. Some of people here feel tired for seeing Wayne but it seems he is now very famous to Chinese people because recently I saw he had a lot events in China together with Sheren Tang; I thought Chinese producers will cast Wayne and Sheren in the same series if they can because they know that fans are waiting for both these artists playing together for one more time.

I must say I am not into heavy dramas especially those with sad endings. I forced myself to watch some episodes of RB 1 & 2. I don’t like the two not so good romances of both dramas. In the RB 1 the hero died too soon of TB and in RB 2 the hero and heroine were separated for a number of years. When they were reunited they were too old for passion so they’d to settle for companionship.
I am no judge of good or bad acting. IMO, when the actors and actresses can leave a lasting impression of the characters they played long after the series had ended then kudos to them for doing a good job of acting.

I think RB 3 will not be successful like RB 1,2 and no more series will get high rating as these two series. Let’s take a look at TITS 2; it has a ton of well-known artists but rating is still far lower compared to RB 1,2(34 to 44). The rating of 44 was a legend and it will not happen again.
Perhaps currently there are a lot of other choices especially from China and Korea?

I agree myolie isn’t very seductive in appearance therefore wouldn’t be very convincing in her role if part of her role is to seduce countless men. i believe Joey Meng r nancy Wu would be a better candidate for the role. It’s not just their looks but because they both have sexy eyes that speaks to men without a word.
That’s where the challenge is… if you look the part and act the part, where is the breakthrough… we shall see the series and see how she acted. I dislike Myolie acting in Dogs&Cats with Gallen Lo. I like her best in Wars of In Laws 1.

Is that TVB no more capable actress other than she?. Actually I not really fan of Myolie due to her acting skills not much different or “wow” factor. Yes, cannot compare with Sharon Tang but atleast someone is better than Myolie, right. On 巾幗梟雄 2 starring by her, there are nothing surprise and quite a boring series. Please, atleast look for better actress like Linda Chung, from 玩嘢王, I think Linda is capable than Myolie.
Who did you refer to in 巾幗梟雄 2??? Sheren was great in that series. The only part i found boring was Fala + Raymond lovey dovey scenes. But still bearable.
I guess it is a preference who you like to see on your tv screen. I like Linda but I think Myolie has proven herself by winning award at Asian level (not confine to TVB only). That should carry some weigh.
Anyway, the series has been completed and having no way to change.

TVB should cast both Sheren Tang and Wayne Lai together for a new, unforgettable series to satisfy so many fans around the world who love Sherayne after watching RB 1,2.
After reading a lot of the comments, it seems like people aren’t too confident in Myolie’s upcoming role in R3, which is very legit. In several of her interviews, she has acknowledged these concerns as well.
My opinion of Myolie differs from the ones that are weary of her abilities since I personally have enjoyed her on-screen presence. She’s pretty natural in most of her roles but still far from perfection.
I have no idea whether she will out perform Sheren or not but I will say, she’s got balls to take on this role. Most people will not do this since it’s likely there will be more harm than good coming out of it …
Let’s give Myolie some credit for taking on the challenge. 🙂
Same here. Sheren is awesome in both RB & NR. Her pairing with Wayne was superb. It has created great impact and a lasting impression in viewers’ heart. Till date, alot of people especially in China, are loving to see them in another collaboration.
But Myolie may create a new chemistry with her new role in No Reserve. She is pretty good but rather inconsistent with her public acceptance. Hope she will breakthrough. I am certainly looking forward to her pairing with Wayne + Edwin.

Although I do like Myolie, I would much prefer seeing Sheren Tang in this series.
