Wayne Lai versus Roger Kwok for TV King
With the TVB Anniversary to be held on November 19, discussion for the top awards are already heating. Overachievers <商戰> and Come On, Cousin <老表，你好hea!> will be this year’s Anniversary series, increasing the chances for Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) and Roger Kwok (郭晉安) to win TV King.
Race For TV King: Wayne Lai vs. Roger Kwok
Although Wayne and Roger have already won the award three times and twice respectively, the seasoned veterans continue to impress viewers with their onscreen performances and generate talk for the most coveted awards in Hong Kong television.
Wayne’s acting talent has always been recognized, and his career propelled to greater heights after winning Best Actor for his performances in Rosy Business <巾幗梟雄>, No Regrets <義海豪情>, and The Confidant <大太監>. Depending on Overachievers for his fourth Best Actor title, Wayne said, “My confidence level is average – there are still a lot of good competition like Come On, Cousin’s Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍) and Black Heart White Soul’s <忠奸人> Roger Kwok .”
Roger grabbed the TV King award for his lovable character, Ah Wong, in Square Pegs <戇夫成龍> and then in the modern spin-off version, Life Made Simple <阿旺新傳>. Roger said, “The last time I got the TV King award was ten years ago already, so my heart is definitely riled up this time. I’m still very enthusiastic about acting. As for the award, the company has its own selection system so it’s hard to guess what will happen,” Roger said.
Aired in July, Roger’s performance in Black Heart White Soul was highly praised. With the drama still fresh in viewers’ minds, Roger’s exposure continues with the upcoming broadcast of Come On, Cousin during the Anniversary Awards season.
Best Supporting Actor Competition
Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) and Raymond Cho (曹永廉) are both in the race for the Best Supporting Actor award. Although Overachievers remains as Edwin’s only series to be broadcast this year, he hopes that the hard work he put into Thai boxing training will pay off and give audiences a refreshing image.
Edwin is happy that he was nominated last year and will be supporting good friend, Raymond Cho, for the award this year instead. Edwin joked, “If Raymond doesn’t win this year, I don’t know when he can get it again. I fully support him. Tell him to remember to thank me, his god-brother, during his acceptance speech!”
After receiving praises for his performance in Ghost Dragon of Cold Mountain <寒山潛龍>, it is rumored that Raymond Cho has the highest chances in winning Best Supporting Actor.

Don’t think I’ve seen Raymond so far this year so I’m rooting for Louis Cheung, especially if he does well in the upcoming 老表 drama.

Raymond Cho played Kwan Jou Yiu/關祖耀, Bing Bing’s fiance, who was missing for two (2) years, suddenly returns, was shot and caught but saved by 三少爷/third son & teacher, knows where gold is, teacher died when 三少爷/third son helped Bing Bing’s fiance escape, Bing Bing’s fiance chose the gold over Bing Bing and was shot/killed by 三少爷/third son.

Agreed, too bad Storm in a Cocoon aired so early. It is an excellent drama. Hopefully, some awards will go to Storm in a Cocoon.

If i had to choose, i’d be rooting for Roger.
TVB is lacking male leads esipically veterans and Wayne seems to be the only loyal one so I feel TVB just gives the award to Wayne. I think Micheal Miu deserves it or Roger depending on how good the cousin drama is.

Wayne was good when he was “chai 9” pure quality acting. Now it’s almost like he has to take care of his “image.” It takes away from his ability to immerse in acting. How is he suppose to deliver dramatic acting chops (the kind that requires tears and snot) if he has to worry about his looks? Anyway, this year, roger was awesome in Chong Gan Ren (sorry, forget the english title). please let roger win this year and restore some integrity in the system.

And I agree about Wayne. He was more raw and natural before his fame. I loved his acting then. Now he get sthe same good tootsy roles and doesn’t express as much. He does have an image to uphold but then again, he shouldn’t care to chok as much; he’s not a youngins. I’m pretty sure most of his fans are see lai, matured women.
I feel Wayne kinda has his chai 9 personality with him in every drama which a bad thing Wayne def shouldn’t win again esicaply with this year drama. It should be Micheal Miu turn or Roger Kwoks turn.
i love wayne’s chai 9 role and porky role in journey to the west. i think he excels in these types of role.
I think Wayne’s specialty is in “everyday man” sort of roles, the type that the general audience easily identifies with.

Agree with Hannah totally it should be Michael turn or Roger and maybe LF so he can stay with TVB. BUT please not Wayne again the 20 ep drama he did was so bad and boring. If Wayne gets it again tvb just giving out tvb king awards to loyal people that sign dead end contracts with them.

Rogers always consistently produce great qualities in his acting when acted in different types of roles.

What Ruco gets unfair treatment Lmfao he’s been promoted so much lately that’s it’s not even funny. The reason why is because alot of TVB male and female leads are leavening TVB or have already have left.
I do consider Ruco’s performance this year (Outbound Love, ROE…) outshines many others and he should at least get one of the top 5. It’s very unfair that TBB and the media never mention him.
Yup, Ruco should be nominated and win TV King this year for either Outbound Love or ROE. He was really good in ROE. He was great in Brother’s Keeper but still did not win last year. Wayne reached his peak when he acted as Chai 9. Unfortunately, I personally feel his subsequent performance in later shows could not outshine his portrayal as Chai 9. But it’s just my personal take on Wayne. Roger is also a great actor but I haven’t seen Black Heart White Soul so can’t comment if he deserves the TV King award.
His acting is good, but he needs a breakthrough role. Keep up the good work. 😀 🙁 LOL!

Exactly! For those who think TVB is favouring him, get your stuff right- he joined tvb in 2008 and only achieved fame in 2011. And before that he was in ATV so he’s had plenty of experience and can actually act. People like Grace, Sisley or Priscilla only rely on relations to get anywhere with their rubbish acting. I agree, Ruco was fabulous in BK and in 0L AND ROE- a variety of roles so I hope he gets BA or at least fav character.
Tbb’s attitude is crucial. Last year,Ruco’s acting in BK is the best in the top 5, yet tbb treated him like transparent. The camera was on Chilam when Ruco’s name is called for the top 5, ridiculous. He was seated together with the 2nd line. Observed that tbbi treated Ruco better, he has more screentime and was presented in line with Ken Ma in Astro. I really find tbb hk’s high level bias, snobbish and disgusting.
I am disgusted with tvb and the media. Tbb arranged to have TC2 which is similar to ROE to be screened at this time which is close to award ceremony. Ruco’s leading roles are all screened just after the ceremony is over. The media is also unfair to him, either ignoring his achievement or highlighting negative and false rumours about him.It’s obvious they dont want him to win any award.what’s wrong with tvb and the media?
Yeah, me too. Like i said, TVB treats Ruco like its step child. They make use of him to help to promote third liners but hold back the good stuff from him. He doesn’t know to suck up to the media or perhaps he doesn’t care to do so, thus, the dogs are always out to paint him in negative light.
If Ruco could sign 30 years management contract with low pay then TBB would treat him like their King. lol. TBB is famous with exchange contract for award. I don’t think Ruco would want to do this exchange as everyone can see his performance is talented.
I think TVB will only appreciate Ruco if he is poached by Mainland Chinese stations to venture abroad. In all of Ruco’s interviews, he always says he grateful to TVB blah blah blah and always promoting the station. So maybe the top TVB execs knows he’ll remain loyal to the station no matter how they treat him. And yes, I was disgusted that he was seated with the 2nd liners in last year’s TVB awards ceremony. But I think this year would be different. In the HK Sina poll, he was voted Best or Favorite Actor. ROE was voted Best Drama. He and Aimee Chan were voted Best Onscreen Couple for ROE.
I also voted for Best Onscreen Couple for ROE solely because of Ruco. Actually, I disliked Jessica, this selfish woman. How can Carson … for her. He has mother, brother, Yip Ting, his career… Damn the ending (although I love Carson and ROE very much except the ending).

Any chance for Benz hui to win tv king. I thought his performace was brilliant. To be able to portray a bad guy with a soft heart and humor. His character was so likable and his emotional scenes were great. If its just based on acting i dont think there was a better acting performace this year.
That would be nice of TVB. But Benz not the main character and TVB is cheap and Benz didn’t sign a dead end contract with TVB like Wayne.

I honestly think that actors/actresses should only win BA once, otherwise it is pretty unfair. Wayne won 3 times already… and Roger won 2 times for his ah wong character. Either Michael Miu (although he probably doesn’t really care for the award), Raymond Lam, or Ruco should win BA. Although I would like Charmaine to win Best Actress, but she already won in 2006. So, it is only right that other contenders win this year (either one of the M Club Actresses, Joey Meng, or Linda.)

I rather have Roger get nominated for BHWS because his upcoming series is pure comedy. He was great as a villain in BHWS, totally award worthy. Not sure about LF, he doesn’t really stand out to me in LW. I find Wayne’s acting more and more boring, he’s playing the same character over and over again.

Roger does have a stronger chance of wining compare to Wayne new drama real mirrors. Wayne should not win it again for got sakes 4 times seriously and he’s not even that good. But I do think he deserved it the first 2 times but thats it unless he get another good role like chai 9.
But Roger gotta complete with Michael Miu and LF. They might add Ruco name in top 5 cause TVB lacking male leading artist but he definitely won win.
For the time being it’s definitely Roger’s to lose. I don’t see anyone even coming close to his performance. In fairness we do have to wait until Wayne’s series airs but I doubt that character will give Wayne much to work with.
