Chapman To and Charlene Choi Promote New Film “The Midas Touch”

Chapman To (杜汶澤) and Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍) attended the Beijing press conference for their new film The Midas Touch <超級經理人> on August 20. The two shared hilarious moments as they played games on stage. Later, they presented EEG manager Mani Fok (霍汶希) with a gift commemorating her 20 years of service, and gave a touched Mani a kiss on her cheeks.

The Midas Touch is a comedy film directed by Fung Chi Keung (馮志強). Charlene stars as successful talent manager Suen Mei Mei. After being caught invading her artist’s privacy, Mei Mei lost the trust of her top talent, kung fu star Kim Lung (Gao Yunxiang 高雲翔), and her career suffers a huge hit.

Chapman To plays former debt collector Mak Chiu. Mak Chiu was given the opportunity to take over a small modeling agency and through that, entered the talent management industry. He was introduced to eight beautiful girls each with a strange quirk. He decided to market them as idol girl group OMG, short for Oh My Girls!, and hoped to turn them into overnight sensations. Mak Chiu pulls out all the tricks to achieve his goal, even asking the girls to accompany wealthy businessmen. He later recruits Mei Mei to become his agency’s first talent manager. Although Mei Mei does not want to be involved, she ultimately joins his company due to her shrinking bank account. The two began serious work on Mak Chiu’s big plan and slowly develop something more than a simple friendship.

Charlene, Chapman, and the film’s girl group OMG attended yesterday’s event along with Mani Fok, who has a guest role in the movie. Charlene and Chapman played games while on stage. Charlene was asked to draw a muscular body on a sheet of paper hung on Chapman’s chest. Unfortunately Charlene’s artwork was out of proportion, giving Chapman a lop-sided six-pack. She wittily explained, “This is an artistic human body. If I had enough time I would’ve drawn a nine-pack.”

Later, Mani Fok was presented with a gift to celebrate her twenty years as an artist manager for EEG. The gift was a framed painting of a tree, its leaves made up of thumbprints of EEG artists, symbolizing the “Like” hand sign. Charlene and Chapman then added their own thumbprints in front of Mani, who joked that they will have to give her half of their earnings as commission once they left their prints. Charlene and Chapman then stood by Mani to give her a kiss on the cheeks. Mani was touched by the gesture and became teary-eyed.

Earlier, Chapman uploaded a video of his wife Krystal Tin (田蕊妮) singing. There have been rumors since then claiming that Chapman is planning to invest his own funds to fulfill Krystal’s singing dreams. When asked to comment, Chapman said, “How come I don’t know anything about this even though I apparently am the one investing the money? Actually, Paco Wong (黃柏高) saw her talent and she is now recording with Paco’s Sun Entertainment. They care a lot about quality so they did not set a production time limit. We don’t know when the album will be released.”
