K-pop Star, Rain, to Team Up with Crystal Liu in New Movie
Korean pop star Rain and mainland Chinese actress Crystal Liu (刘亦菲) will be playing the lead roles in an upcoming Chinese movie temporarily titled Beauty’s Dew <红颜露水>, a romantic drama film helmed by Gao Xixi (高希希), one of China’s most famous and acclaimed directors.
As Rain’s first Chinese feature film, his casting in Beauty’s Dew has attracted much buzz in Asia, notably China and Korea. The film stars Rain as Xu Chengxu, the wealthy heir of a multi-corporation who disguises himself as a poor artist to pursue his love for the arts. Crystal will star as a Rain’s love interest Xing Lu, the descendent of a fallen noble family. Beauty’s Dew is adapted from the novella of the same name by Zhang Xiaohan (张小娴).
The production team of Beauty’s Dew expressed their excitement on working with Rain, stating that they are fans of the K-pop singer and enjoys his acting. Rain, who first debuted as a member of the Korean boy band Fanclub in 1998, was met with overnight success after the release of his first solo album Bad Guy in 2002. Rain became one of the first Korean Wave stars to take Asia by storm after starring in the extremely popular Korean drama Full House <浪漫滿屋> with Song Hye Kyo in 2004. The 31-year-old has recently released his sixth studio album Rain Effect and is promoting the LP in China.
Rain’s management Cube Entertainment stated that while Rain has showcased manly images for his recent Hollywood films Ninja Assassin and The Prince, he will attempt a completely different image for Beauty’s Dew. The film’s producers hope to see Rain challenge Xu Chengxu’s dignified traits and intelligence.
Beauty’s Dew will reportedly begin shooting in Shanghai in March 2014.

How to act? One knows only Chinese the other knows only Korean. Don’t they have Chinese actors or korean actresses for the roles?
Lol simple; dub Rain’s voice. Plenty of actors that don’t speak a common language have acted together in movies and dramas. They both receive scripts in their own language. No harm in mixing odd combinations of actors together, it’s rather interesting to anticipate how these foreign actors mesh with each other ^0^
Did you watch time of love stars Linda Chung and Yeon Jung Hoon? They did quite good. It’s doable but I think it is quite difficult to film. Wonder will Rain date Crystal after this? Since he practically dated each of his co stars.

He won’t be dating Crystal LYF. Those who see Crystal video speaking English, you will know her English is poor, she cannot speak Korean. Rain cannot speak Mandarin, they have language barrier.

Kim Tae Hee is very famous and considered one of the few natural beauties in Korea. Also apparently she is a real life chaebol’s daughter, so basically Rain just scored, scored and scored in all depts in a girlfriend. I am afraid Crystal can’t compare to that.

In Korea, all men have to serve 2 years in the army, actors are no exception. Fans were worrying that Rain and Kim Tae Hee won’t make it through his army service. But they did, so far no break up news yet.
The problem with Crystal is her English is poor, and she cannot speak Korean. Nearly impossible Rain and her together due to communication issue.
And I don’t like Rain, LOL! I think he is ugly, I also don’t know what Kim Tae Hee see in him, since her family is loaded, and she got beauty to snatch alot of men better than Rain.

Nagasawa Masami (Japanese actress) who is the female lead in a Taiwanese drama Chocolat spent extra time to memorize her Chinese lines for the drama, although you can hear her accent but it is not something that bothers the audience on the contrary it shows how professional she is.

Actually I have seen a Chinese actor dating a Korean actress before. It was that actress that starred in My lucky Star with jimmy Lin. She dated a Taiwanese actor who acted in there,but it did not last. Ady An dated a Korean actor before if the rumours are true. Korean culture is strict but it foes not mean that they have never dated or married non Korean before.
I feel the Singaporean actors,actresses and singers seem to be more open since they have married other nationalities before and seem to do more often than other people.

Yes,that is her name but no I am not referring to Jimmy Lin since he was already dating his current wife. It was another actor but I do not remember his name. They did date but it did not last. I heard it was partially because of the distance because one lived in Taiwan and the other in Korea. I know all of that info you just mentioned since I used to be a really big fan of his.

It’s practically a one-way street with Korean actors taking over Chinese films. It’s rare to see big name Chinese actors invited to big roles in Korean films.
That’s very true. HK or Mainland directors just love adding other asian stars while their own countries never invite even the most famous chinese to film their movies. HUM…
Adding any famous international stars not going automatically sell out tickets but then again hollywood are recently adding Chinese stars to their films now and trying make much bigger hit on china market

It’s also Koreans who are pushing themselves into the big China market with big $$$$profits. Chinese producers are happy to comply by hiring big Korean stars to portray prominent Chinese characters. Cecilia Cheung did have a starring role as a Chinese immigrant in the Korean film Failan about a decade ago. More recently, Simon Yam had a minor supporting role in a Korean blockbuster “The Thieves”.
But don’t hold your breath expecting a Chinese star in the role of a Korean queen, princess or minor character.
chinese actors don’t do any korean films because why would they want to go to korea when they get paid more doing chinese films , this is why lots of korean actors are slowly getting into chinese films because they get paid more in the chinese industry then in the korean industry

I think it’s because Rain lost most of his fan base due to his military scandal. Hollywood would not hire anyone that would not attract an audience overseas. Rain has to rebuild his image probably and it is easier to do that in China, since a lot of Koreans are still bashing on him.

In Korea all men suppose to serve 2 years mandatory military service.
Most serve their early, like in their early 20’s.
Rain serve his late, he begin go to military at age 29, this is due to he postponse his service reason busy with acting roles.
He already done his military service though. He is out now, and he is back to acting and singing.
Actually there is a scandal, but it was hushed up. You can google this anywhere. He did not avoid the military so it was not that bad.
Rain was suppose to serve as a regular soldier during his term since he made an official announment. His fans praised him, since celebrities tend to take the easier route and work as MCs for events. I guess it was really hard for him, so he silently switched to the celebrity soldier route.
After he switched he began to secretly date Kim Tae Hee during his service. Apparently soldiers have a hard time to to even call a family member. Regular soldiers have to perform really well on tough training schedule to even get a call to a family members and sometimes they have to choose between their girlfriend or mother.
Due to these special privileges for celebrities after Rain’s scandal the government officially abolished the celebrity division and only give Rain probation. Koreans were actually saying that he should serve another term like PSY because he did not take it seriously.

Thanks for your info! Oh so that was what happened. That should not be considered a scandal at all. Celebs are often given special privileges over the average citizen so it is not anything new at all. I am surprised that people can consider that a scandal.

U dont need to speak the same language to film together. See, the script tells it all so when one speaks the line, he or she knows exactly what the other is saying.
But i would say Crystal Liu also speaks English too, no? Rain is just a so so muscle bound dancer so probably will be a conflict of talent there.
Yes, it is all scripted so it does not matter if you speak the same language or not. They can all speak their own language and then get dubbed later. I have seen that many times before. Crystal speaks some English, but not really well…
