TVB Invests $100 Million in Film Version of “Triumph in the Skies”
TVB seems extremely confident in the success of their upcoming Triumph in the Skies <衝上雲霄> film. The company has committed $100 million HKD to its production, and has recruited a top-notch team of cast and crew to bring their hit series to the big screen.
The idea of a film version of the pilot drama has been floating around since the success of last summer’s Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II>. When TVB expressed interest in the project, many fans hoped that Chilam Cheung (張智霖) would reprise his popular role as the suave Captain Cool. Chilam’s current management company, China 3D Digital Entertainment, also wants to hop on board and was in negotiations to become a partner. In addition to securing Chilam and Francis Ng (吳鎮宇) for their existing roles, TVB is also in the process of adding Louis Koo (古天樂) to the star-studded lineup.
TVB executive Tommy Leung (梁家樹), a top producer and the Controller of the company’s Drama Production division, was assigned to lead the project. He recently announced that he will leave his current position to pursue film production as a Senior Consultant for TVB’s parent company, Shaw Brothers Studios. Working for TVB for over forty years, Leung has helmed many major prime time series, and is credited with bringing many artists to super stardom.
On February 26, TVB held a reception to honor Leung’s contributions and to mark his transition to his new post. Wanting to work in film for quite some time, Leung will now focus all of his energy on the Triumph in the Skies movie under the Shaw Brothers Studios banner. Currently in pre-production, the film will begin shooting sometime in May or June.
Although the male leads have been confirmed, the production team is still in search of a female star. Leung revealed today that he is looking to cast a Mainland actress, though kept mum about a list of potential candidates.

Not again with Triumph in the Skies. Can’t they just stop with that, it is overrated.
Hmm. Wanna see Louis and Chilam onscreen again. CBWH days. 🙂
Me too!
Agree ……. two handsome guys acting together!
Why do they have to find a mainland actress?….
for the same reason why so many HK actors work in the mainland.
Tommy wants to promote the movie to the Mainland market.
It would be awesome to see both Louis and Chilam! They were my all time fav in the 90s when I mostly spend all my free time with TVb lol. It will being back good feelings!
Salut Tommy Leung. Now Txb is left for Catherine Tsang and there are more reasons for me to stop watching Txb series.
i dont mind a movie but why do they need look for mainland actress cant it be hongkong actress.
They can have both mainland and HK actresses as there are more than two males lead
Probably a Mainland Chinese actress and a Taiwanese actress so that TVB will have good box office in Hong Kong, Mainland Chinese and Taiwan when TITS is showing!
Is Francis Ng going to get a new love interest again?
I really hope not. Even though I don’t like Holiday that much, they can really stop the girlfriend-switching.
Money gone down the drain.
I can see a hint of Laughing Gor——an admired character overdone. Even though I like Francis Ng and his Sam Gor a lot, but Triumph in the Skies is getting way too commercialized. Just hope that the script for the movie is not superficial like TITS2. I kind of miss the original Triumph in the Skies as it was before the sequel came out: a simple, perhaps inspiring and romantic drama that sat quietly in people’s memories.
This is such a beautiful description of the first one. I can see where you are going with the whole laughing gor thing. A good character but promoted too much.
Can they somehow bring Michelle Yip back? 😀
ExaFfor what i was thinking, she is also well known in china as well as HK.
Was just thinking the same 🙂
sounds like a cheap remake
I’d just like to congratulate Francis on his normal looking haircut in this picture.
I knew you could do it!
It’s amazing to find Francis Ng better looking than Chilam (in this picture).
Anyways… I actually find TITSII a better plot than the first one. I don’t know why, but perhaps not being able to watch it in HD makes a big difference, and the plot was too intimidating to watch. I didn’t like the line with Sam and Bella at all. Bella makes me want to slap her with her a chair, and I really want to punch Sam for being senseless. I mean, who would hug other girls so tightly in front of their SICK girlfriend who’s lying on the bed and can do pretty much nothing about it! It drives me nuts while watching the endings..
I would like them to choose joe chen even though she’s from Taiwan she is also well known in china 😀
I can’t see Joe Chen playing a relevant role in Triumph in the Skies.
No more Kenneth BB! Yeah! But I’d like Ron to be in the movie too cause he is an important character since he’s Sam’s Bro. Also their chemistry is so good.
They need to use more actresses and also younger actors from Hong Kong! The HK film industry needs more newcomers…I mean if the film itself is good, it will appeal to many markets!
You don’t need actresses from every place. Just take a look at “You came from the Stars”…full Korean cast yet it is so popular in so many countries!
Some say it’s overdone but the audience are the ones that make it possible. If you don’t want them to make more sequels, don’t watch it, less people watching means they make less money so they won’t make more.
