A-Lin Joins the Sony Music Family
Taiwanese singer-songwriter A-Lin has officially signed with Sony Music, joining the roster of Sony Music singers such as Jay Chou (周杰倫), Show Lo (羅志祥), and Rainie Yang (楊丞琳). A press conference was held on May 22 to welcome the singer, who had previously signed with the record label, Avex Taiwan.
It was reported that A-Lin signed a $2 million HKD record deal with Sony Music. The label also gave her a handmade accordion made in Nepal as a welcoming gift. The accordion was worth at least $50,000 HKD.
At the press conference, A-Lin wore a tight blue dress which accentuated her curves. A-Lin almost exposed herself, to which she later expressed, “Whenever I watched the performances of my idol, Beyoncé, I noticed that there would be gusts of wind. It feels like I’m watching a queen descending upon me,” she laughed. “I have safety tape on me. I’m not worried.”
A-Lin and Sony Music executive staff, Chen Hsin Jung (陳信榮), are old friends, which was one of the reasons why she decided to sign with Sony Music after her contract with Avex ended. “During an awards ceremony back in the day, I almost fell to the ground because I was wearing really high heels. [Chen] held out a hand to help me. I suppose you can say that our ‘romantic’ encounter was what urged us to collaborate.”
The 30-year-old declined to reveal the amount of her signing bonus, but did mention that she is “more than satisfied” with it. “It’s enough for me to take care of my family. After signing the contract, I already purchased a townhouse in Tainan. My next goal is to purchase another estate in Taipei.”
