Aska Yang Showcases Beauty of Taiwan with New Music Video
Taiwanese singer Aska Yang (楊宗緯), known for his moving and beautiful voice, recently released a mini-movie for his newest single, “Song Not Yet Ended” <歌未央>. Selected as a theme to promote tourism in Taiwan, “Song Not Yet Ended” takes viewers through a journey of Aska’s memories of his home country.
Like three of the songs on his latest album, First Love <初。愛>, which was released in March of this year, the lyrics of “Song Not Yet Ended” were written by Aska, who once again displays his enchanting ability to tell a story through singing. The song was chosen by the Taiwan Strait Tourism Association and by Trip Taobao, mainland China’s most commonly used e-commerce platform, to encourage Taiwanese tourism. As a result, the accompanying mini-movie displays beautiful Taiwanese landscapes from places like Taipei, Hsinchu, and Taoyuan.
The mini-movie, which took four days and three nights to film, is directed by Huang Zhongping (黃中平), one of Taiwan’s three leading music video directors. Aska shared that, prior to filming the mini-movie, he and the director discussed what they wished to portray. “In my mind, there are a lot of Taiwanese promotional clips, and they always show Taipei 101 and the High-Speed Rail stations,” he said. “But I hoped that this time, we could show fruits, souvenirs, bookstores, Taiwanese opera… we must film these, because these are what I remember about Taiwan!”
Apart from the shots of stunning Taiwanese scenery and unique Taiwanese features, the mini-movie also includes various Taiwanese people, from all ages and walks of life. In order to record what he felt were the truest Taiwanese people, the director randomly filmed about 50 staff workers while they walked on the street, hoping to capture “the most Taiwanese smiles.” At the end of the mini-movie, Aska walks into a video-recording room, whose walls are covered with smiling photographs, and discovers that the most beautiful thing about Taiwan is its people.
