Jane Zhang Lends Vocals to Theme Song for Upcoming Drama “We Get Married”
Since her debut after landing third place in the 2005 Super Girl <超級女聲> singing competition, mainland Chinese singer Jane Zhang (張靚穎) has been a highly sought-after vocalist for movie and drama theme songs. Recently, she released a new single, entitled “Finally Waited for You” <終於等到你>, which will be used as the theme song for the upcoming romantic drama We Get Married <咱們結婚吧>.
Jane’s soaring vocals first stunned the mainland Chinese audience when she recorded the opening theme song for the 2006 TV drama adaptation of Return of the Condor Heroes <神鵰俠侶>. Since then, she has lent her voice to a handful of dramas and movies almost every year, even high-profile films like The Banquet <夜宴>, Painted Skin <畫皮>, and Mulan <花木蘭>.
Due to her popularity as a theme-song vocalist, Jane has held fast to one principle when selecting which pieces to sing. According to her, “only when a work touches [the singer] can it touch the audience as well.” In fact, Jane ended up returning to the recording studio the day after she had finished the vocal work for “Finally Waited for You,” because she felt that she could improve her original take.
The song is composed by Dong Dongdong (董冬冬) and penned by Chen Xi (陳曦), who have previously teamed up to create the theme songs for a vast array of movies and dramas, from Sophie’s Revenge <非常完美> to the 2009 drama adaptation of Red Sorghum <高粱紅了>. The drum, bass, and guitar accompaniment, as well as the addition of a 24-member string orchestra, provides “Finally Waited for You” with a grand feel, fitting for Jane’s powerful voice.
We Get Married, which stars Gao Yuanyuan (高圓圓) as a “leftover” career woman and Huang Haibo (黃海波) as a man afraid of marriage, will air on CCTV and Hunan Satellite TV in November.
