Online Singer Xu Liang Releases Second Album “Words of Love”

In 2009, mainland Chinese singer-songwriter Xu Liang (徐良) rose to online prominence after releasing a slew of catchy singles on the Internet, all self-penned and self-composed. On May 3, Xu Liang released his second studio album, titled Words of Love <情話>, which feature more of his original creations and several duets with good friend Sun Yuyou (孫羽幽).

Xu Liang originally came to fame through the Internet, but he was signed by Wonderful Music in 2011 and released his first studio album, Bad Youth <不良少年>, a year later. Words of Love will maintain the fresh and clean style for which he is known. Like his other popular love songs, the four tracks on Words of Love feature simple musical arrangements and concise lyrics, and are sure to touch the hearts of fans in the same way.

The album’s first two singles, which were released in January, are both duets between Xu Liang and his friend, Sun Yuyou, whose singing skills have won the praise of many netizens. The first duet, “A Memory of Seven Seconds” <七秒鐘的記憶>, racked up more than 3 million listens on online music clients the day it was released. The second single, “Heart-wrenching” <虐心>, is slightly different from Xu Liang’s typical releases. Although the musical style is similar, Xu Liang adopted some of the techniques of romantic fiction when penning the lyrics. The combination of the emotional narrative, the unadorned musical arrangement, and the soft female vocals successfully expresses the pain of love and separation.

Apart from his fame in mainland China, Xu Liang has also started to gain fans in Taiwan, where his song “To Meet Again” <後會無期>, which is a duet with mainland Chinese singer Silence Wang (汪蘇瀧), is featured as the opening theme for the currently airing idol drama, Borrow Ur Love <借用一下你的愛>.
