Sam Hui and Two Sons to Hold Hong Kong Concert in April

Cantopop legend, Sam Hui (许冠杰) will be performing in a three-day concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum beginning April 18. Although taking a hiatus from his music career in the late 1990s, the “God of Song” emerged out of retirement to stage a comeback concert in Hong Kong in 2004. Since then, Sam has been performing at worldwide locations on an intermittent basis.

At the press conference for What a Wonderful World Sam 2014 Concert earlier this week, Sam and his family were present. Sam’s two musically-talented sons, Ryan Hui (许怀欣) and Scott Hui (许怀谷), as well as Scott’s wife, will also be performing at the concert. Hong Kong singer/actress Ella Koon (官恩娜) will also be a special guest performer.

The 65-year-old singer is known for his energized concert performances and trademark leopard costumes, which he will also wear in his April concert. As per his usual custom, he promised that he would also go to the edge of the stage and kiss his fans on the lips at the concert.

Since Sam has put on weight, he grew more conscious about the additional inches around his waist. To strengthen himself and get into better shape, Sam has been on a rigorous exercise routine involving running, swimming and karate.  Currently, he has lost seven pounds and hopes to lose ten more pounds by his concert opening date next month.

Ever since he came out of retirement in 2004, Sam has been inspirational in his music, holding concerts to commemorate his deceased friends, Leslie Cheung (張國榮) and Anita Mui (梅艷芳) and making music that promotes positivity in life. Through his upcoming concert, Sam hopes to spread good will to the people. “Hope the concert will be a symbol of peace. Hope the Hong Kong people will face life with optimism.”

  1. Um, actually, Sam was inspirational in his music even back in the 70s and 80s — he’s always been known for writing songs that HK people can relate to (because his songs echo HK people’s sentiments) and be inspired by (many of his songs are still inspirational hits even know, more than 30 years later). He is definitely a legend! Can’t wait for his concert in April!
