2013 TVB Anniversary Awards: Official Nominations Revealed
The official nominations for this year’s TVB Anniversary Awards <萬千星輝頒獎典禮> were revealed at a press conference on November 27. TVB invited some of the competing artists to a press conference to help unveil the official nominations for all fourteen categories.
Perhaps due to the artists’ busy schedules, only Kenneth Ma (馬國明) and Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) appeared to represent the Best Actor contestants. Although his colleagues have already acknowledged him as a TV King, Kenneth remains humble, saying he would be lucky to be placed in the top five. Edwin shares these sentiments and is not confident about his chances. However, with four nominations this year, Edwin will likely earn a spot in the winner’s circle.
Although Tavia Yeung (楊怡) and Niki Chow (周麗淇) are opponents in this year’s TV Queen fight, both are maintaining a normal mindset and appeared happy and relaxed. Niki jokingly urged Tavia to consider marriage should she win again this year, and became bashful when a reporter encouraged her to do the same.
When asked to discuss her rumored love Him Law (羅仲謙), who is nominated for the Most Improved Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories, Tavia quipped that Him is too old to take the Most Improved award and hopes he wins for his supporting role instead.
Since many of the hot contenders were absent, other nominated artists were able to speak their minds for the very first time. Joey Meng (萬綺雯) teared up when her Best Actress nomination was announced. She is happy to be acknowledged and gives her support to former ATV colleague Kristal Tin (田蕊妮).
Heavily promoted newcomer Priscilla Wong (黃翠如) nabbed three nominations for Most Improved Actress, My Favorite Female Character, and Best Program Host. She was unable to cover up her excitement, though was uncertain about her chances because she is still inexperienced.
The public poll will open officially at midnight on December 2, and the results will be announced at the awards ceremony on December 16.
The Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Drama awards will be determined by public votes and a professional judging panel. The Favorite Male Character and Favorite Female Character winners will be selected by public votes. The Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Most Improved Actor, Most Improved Actress, Best Hot, Best Variety Program, and Best Informative Program will be chosen by a professional judging panel and TVB artists.

While I do like Edwin’s performances this year, nominating him in 4 different categories I think is slightly making it too obvious that they’re favoring him to win something on the night. Seriously- Most Improved while also being nominated in Best Actor o____O?! How does that work LOL

Aw, I like Ivana. I think she’s pretty natural on screen. Aside from her voice, which ranges from normal(ish), shrieky or plain weird. The way she speaks reminds me a little of those black and white HK films.
I want Mandy Wong to win best supporting actress. And maybe Nancy. Idk about the rest honestly. Some aren’t really deserving to be on the lists.

Good point. TVB is so petty. Wooden and bad actors like Jason Chan and Aimee Chan got nominated but good actors like Power and Sheren are not. Also Priscilla who’s that ugly Sandy Yu’s favourite is bad. Even Sonija who’s way better than Aimee and Priscilla but is not on the list. And Chris Lai is so much better than Jason Chan. Shame on TVB.

Surprisingly I’m enjoying Tavia’s performance in THC2. While Kenneth Ma has improved, I don’t think he deserves BA. He’s still quite bad on some of his expressions such as, angry, deep thinking or concern looks.
Francis Ng and Dayo Wong are already legendary, they hardly need the Best Actor award. Ruco Chan is the most deserving candidate. Kristal Tin should win Best Actress, hands down.
Chilam can easily nab the Most Popular Male Character while either Kate/Tavia/Linda would stand a chance with Most Popular Female Character. But if Joey Meng had been nominated for her character in A Change of Heart instead, I would have picked her right away.
May Chan should win Best Supporting Actress. And maybe Him Law or Ron Ng for Best Supporting Actor.
I think Edwin Siu is way beyond Most Improved, acting wise. He’s just too good for this award. Benjamin Yuen/Vincent Wong are positive winners.
I think Vincent Wong is also too good for “Most Improved”. Chris Lai and Benjamin Yuen should be the ones nominated.
Fair enough, Vincent Wong have been in dramas for years now (but so was Oscar Leung). Good shout on Chris Lai though. He deserves at least a nomination.

Surprised to find Fala Chen nominated in both “Best Actress”, and “Most Popular Female Character since she had already left TVB. It is probably due to the popularity and high viewership ratings of “TITS 2”.

Since “Bounty Lady” generates high viewership ratings, Kate Tsui will have a very good chance to get Best Actress next month.

i would have loved to see Natalie in Most Improved or BSA but she was not nominated in either! Natalie deserves that nomination in Most Improved much more than Priscilla (till now, i still can’t fathom how she got all her leading roles???)
Natalie has won most improved female before. But sigh… She and Selena Li have been neglected these years. Don’t know why either.

i can see why Selena is omitted but if Selena doesn’t deserve to be nominated, so too Aimee. Both have an irritating fluffiness in the way they act but Aimee has the edge as she’s Mrs Moses Chan golden boy of TVB.
I think TVB wants to forget that Bullet Brain exits, hence no nomination for it. Unfortunate for Natalie because she deserve to win an award for her performance.

i have a feeling that Tavia will win TV Queen, but I have an urge to support Niki anyway.
She won’t,this year not much news about her maybe last year everyone thinks she lucky to get BA
Although I’d like Tavia or Kritsal to win, I highly doubt Tavia will be able to win TVQueen again this year just by judging all the hype and obvious set up for Linda to win. I think Tbb’s just using Tavia as part of the game to make the competition appear more ‘interesting’ as to who would win this year. Just my thoughts.
Tavia her turn of BA is over…just what had happen to Myolie. Possible this year between Linda and Kate.

Tavia may win best actress at the TVB awards astro Malaisia on 12/1, but not at the TVB Anniversary Awards 12/16.
It’s so obvious that TVB creates noises for Linda. It’s easy if Linda will win over Kate or Niki. All their characters are average. That’s why TVB brings up Tavia, last year TV Queen, for the competition.

I think tavia might be the dark horse people aren’t expecting! She is doing extremely well in oc2 with the limited amount of screen time she has to work with. Well have to see how the story progresses….
Based purely on acting, Ruco stands head and shoulders above the competition for best actor. Kristal will probably get my fave female character. Hope that Chilam will not get BA but fave character cos comparing Capt cool and Sam Sir, Sam Sir is a more challenging role and Ruco nailed it almost flawlessly.

I never dislike Ruco, i enjoy his acting on BK. You had downgrade some many good actors, which means none of them ‘purely’ acting ..only Ruco !

I agree n support Ruco for best actor cuz he definately deserve it for the challenging role in BK…but his contract with TVB is not due yet so the exchange will not happen this year. You know what I mean?

Support Ruco for best actor. Cant decide on best actress cos no one has impressed me. Brother’s Keeper for best drama, that’s one series which i love from start to finish. Good acting even from the supporting cast like Lau Kong, Joseph Lee, Timothy Cheng and of course the inimitable Louise Lee.

Supporting Esther all the way for this year’s best actress! Her performance in was phenomenal. However, I doubt her victory because TVB always selects their managed artists. Because of this, I think Linda Chung will win, despite her mediocre performance in . Don’t get me wrong, I recognize Linda’s acting, but I just don’t think this drama allowed her to show her acting abilities extremely well. Because of her huge fan base, I am confident she will win Favourite Female Character. As for Best Actor, I really don’t have a preference since I think all of them did average. My guess is maybe Ruco or Francis will win.
awww i support Esther too! 🙂 i think her performance is great for a semiretired actress. but sadly the media is totally not giving her any attention… she won’t get the award but u-know-i-know she’s overqualified like Francis in best actor. so i support Kristal for best actress.
Supporting Esther all the way too for Best Actress. Her acting is and always is so outstanding in every show. Her performance is very captivating especially in the recent drama ‘’Always and Ever’’. Although there are other artistes , like Tavia and Kristal who acted very well too, but none can match Esther’s standard yet.

Wow, i feel like for the best variety program, it’ll definitely be The Voice: Star’s Legend! It was an eye opener to see Fred Cheng perform after all the years of seeing him on screen, yet not remembering him at all until he came onto the show.
