2019 Miss Hong Kong Pageant Eliminates 5 Contestants
The 2019 Miss Hong Kong Pageant held its elimination competition yesterday. The fifteen contestants competed in a round of talent performances to collect popular votes and support for a pass to the final competition, which will be held on September 8, 2019.
Of the fifteen, 25-year-old Cara Jiang (江雨婷), 24-year-old Cayley Ng (吳玥彤), 22-year-old Rowena Wong (黃詠柔), 25-year-old Mina Yeung (楊慧敏), and the popular 21-year-old Nicole Yiu (姚羽嘉) were eliminated. Fei Wong (王菲) was actually tied with Nicole in votes, but judges followed basic competition rules, and decided to give Fei the pass.
Nicole, also a graduate of the Beijing Dance Academy, had performed with a jazz dance that she choreographed herself. The 21-year-old admitted to reporters that while she is disappointed, she is also upset for leaving her pageant friends. “I will miss the other contestants. I do feel that it’s a bit unfair, but there’s nothing I can do about it! I’ve been living in Beijing, so maybe I got less votes on [the app] big big fun.”
Mentioning to Nicole that she had cried during her performance, she said, “I am proud of my performance today, but I am sad that I have to leave the other contestants.”
While other eliminated contestants were tearful, Mina Yeung stayed positive and said, “All roads lead to Rome. I didn’t audition for the prize. I want to join the entertainment industry. If I’m not suitable for a beauty pageant, maybe I am for this industry!”
The ten finalists are: #1 Carmaney Wong (黃嘉雯), #2 Kayan Choi (蔡嘉欣), #3 Maggie Leung (梁敏巧), #4 Vivian Iu (姚懿芠), #5 Fei Wong, #6 Blossom Chan (陳熙蕊), #7 Katy Yeung (楊詠彤), #8 Kelly Gu (古佩玲), #9 Ivy Liu (廖倬竩), and #10 Fefe Tse (謝采芝).
