9 Chinese Dramas to Start Filming in July 2021

A new month welcomes a new set of dramas gearing up for production. Viewers can look forward to what different genres of Chinese dramas featuring some of the hottest stars in the year ahead. Below are 9 noteworthy dramas to look out for:

The Light of My Life <追光者>

Starring Leo Luo Yunxi (罗云熙) and Wu Qian (吴倩), The Light of My Life follows Yunxi playing a meticulous and individualistic hotshot lawyer joining a group of volunteers from various industries to embark on a risky but meaningful rescue mission together as he seeks to find his missing sister in an earthquake disaster. Collaborating for the third time after My Sunshine <何以笙簫默>, A Lifetime Love <上古情歌>, fans could not be more excited to see the chemistry between the leads blossom once more.

Night Wanderer <夜旅人>

Led by Deng Lun (邓伦) and Ni Ni (倪妮), the time traveling suspense drama tells a romantic story transcending time and space as a man from the 1930s crosses paths with a cheerful and easygoing female forensic doctor in 2015

Love Like A Galaxy <星漢燦爛>

Tencent’s big budget historical romance pairs popular stars Zhao Lusi (赵露思) and Wu Lei (吴磊), as they respectively play a poor abandoned girl and a righteous prince. A novel based adaptation written by Guan Xin Ze Luan (关心则乱), who also authored the novel of The Story of Minglan <知否应是绿肥红瘦>, there are great anticipations for its high quality script.

Legend of Anle <安乐传>

Rumored to start filming in mid July, Youku’s historical romance Legend of Anle is most likely to be led by Diliraba Dilmurat (迪丽热巴) and Gong Jun (龚俊). The story revolves around the heroine and her journey in avenging her family while maneuvering through the scheming palace halls. Dubbed as the female version of Nirvana in Fire <琅琊榜> and led by the same director as Word of Honor <山河令>, fans can expect detailed and quality storytelling.

The Heart of Genius <天才基本法>

Talented rising star Zhang Xincheng (张新成) joined the supernatural drama alongside Lei Jiayin (雷佳音) and Zhang Zifeng (张子枫). The highly acclaimed and inspirational novel adaptation follows a widely known genius who has been secretly cheating the system of time and space. She fatefully meets mathematical genius and childhood sweetheart who takes her on a fantastical adventure.

Extraordinary Healer <非凡醫者>

Led by TFBoys‘ Karry Wang Junkai (王俊凱), the medical series is dubbed as the Chinese version of TV series The Good Doctor. He will be playing a young autistic savant who struggles to express himself to others, but continuously works hard to improve himself in every way he can to become a good doctor.

Flight to You <向風而行>

Wang Kai (王凱) and Tan Songyun (譚松韻) will play a senior and junior romance in an aviation setting. Largely inspired from 12 real-life airplane cases, the story follows an aspiring civil aviation pilot struggling to work with her cold and strict captain because of their personality clashes. However, after experiencing several risky and life-threatening aviation incidents together, they grow to value and eventually love each other.

A Romance of the Little Forest <兩個人的小森林>

With filming believed to have already started at the end of June, Vin Zhang Binbin (张彬彬) and Esther Yu Shuxin (虞书欣) play a romantic story with environmental themes. The plot describes a botany professor focusing only on research and does not care for fame, money, or love. Meeting a girl he had ill feelings with in the past, their interest in one another develops as she shows off her doctorate knowledge in orthithology.

Floating on the Edge <浮圖緣>

The historical novel based adaptation brings together Dylan Wang Hedi (王鶴棣) and Chen Yuxi (陳鈺琪) to portray a palace couple. The story revolves around the youngest daughter of the Bu family entering the palace in the place of her elder sister.
