Aarif Lee Braces for the Typhoon
The Category 10 storm, Typhoon Mangkhut, has terrorized its way through Southeast Asia and much of Southern China. While the storm has already ended in Hong Kong and Macau as of September 17th, it’s going to be a while before the cities can fix up all the damages that the typhoon has caused.
Social media was constantly being updated while the storm was passing through Hong Kong and Macau yesterday. Trees were getting knocked down, windows were breaking, and apartment buildings were swaying against the 100 mph winds. Everyone taped and bolted down their windows, including Aarif Lee (李治廷), who shared his progress with social media.
“This is no usual storm. This is a mother of a storm,” said Aarif as he recorded himself walking around his house. “We’ve boarded everything up, Echoes of the Rainbow <歲月神偷> style. Actually, the hinges are kinda coming off. I’m going to stay here and support this glass for a while.”
In related news, socialite Michelle Chua (蔡一鳳) shared a clip of her house in Macau, where she said the master bedroom is flooded. “Right after I said our house in Hong Kong is fine, my brother told me that my house in Macau is flooded! The living room is fine, but the master bedroom is not.” In a later phone interview, she clarified, “The property is very close to the coast and the rain was heavy. Fortunately, the guards downstairs quickly noticed it and called my brother to check it out. The windows blew open. The winds were too strong!”
