Aimee Chan Finds Perfect Chinese Name For Son Aiden
Aimee Chan (陳茵媺) and husband Moses Chan (陳豪) have finally decided on a Chinese name for their three-month-old son Aiden.
The couple only had an English name ready when they welcomed their first child in December. Following western naming conventions, their son was given the popular first name Aiden, and a middle name Joshua, named after the Biblical figure who eventually succeeds Moses.
Recently celebrating their son’s first 100 days with a family trip to Thailand, the new parents are now ready to announce their son’s official Chinese name. After consulting with their parents and sifting through numerous choices, Aimee and Moses settled on Chan Chi Yip (陳梓燁); Chi meaning the catalpa tree, and Yip symbolizing splendid brightness.
Aimee enthused over the name at a public event on March 17. “It is very meaningful. ‘Chi’ is a special tree and represents success; ‘Yip’ means glory and brilliance. The characters have beautiful shapes, and the name sounds nice when read out loud. It’s a perfect name!”
Unlike other Chinese parents, Aimee and Moses did not seek a feng shui master’s help to come up with an auspicious name. Aimee believes that a name serves only as a basic foundation, and that the child’s personality will be developed according to his own will. Despite their more modern approach to baby-naming, they made sure to give their son a good start by testing his name against a long list of criteria. “Since the name will follow him for his entire life, it must be meaningful, uncommon, sounds nice, and accepted by our parents it as well.”
More importantly, Aiden himself seems satisfied with his Chinese name. “When he heard me call him ‘Chi Yip’, he responded by saying ‘goo, goo’ [good]!”

They really took great care in choosing the kid’s name. The name indeed have good meaning and sound nice.
The baby’s respond is cute.
I like the names they chose for their baby. They are all very proper and meaningful. Both the chinese name and the english names are nice. Very sensible parents.
It is usual name, nothing very memorable or celebrity like but as long as they love the name, it doesn’t matter. Now to have 2 English names, Aiden Joshua Chan.. and quite meaningful in the sense how it says Joshua succeeds Moses in the bible..I find that even more meaningful.
Lucky Aiden to have such thoughtful parents in choosing for him a suitable name that means and sounds good. Carelessly chosen a name can embarrass a person for the rest of his life for I have come across this unfortunate situation often in Malaysia. I hope Chi Yip will grow and live up to his parents’ expectations, “successful and gloriously brilliant”!
So how shall we address this next Nic Tse (hopefully no yearly christmas photos, etc)? Aiden? Joshua? Chi Yip? Yip Yip? Or the very cringe worthy Ah B or BB? Or if the kid’s good looking, just call him Handsome?

If you think calling him Yip Yip is mocking the name, you are wholely mistaken. It’s normal for chinese to address a kid by repeating the last character of his name. It’s a term of endearment.
Most of Oscar Leung’s colleagues call him Wai Wai. Does that mean they are mocking his name?
As for the Nic Tse reference, Funn most probably did it because Aiden’s situation is similar to Nic Tse. They both have famous parents in the entertainment circle who are quite high profile in their news.
Sigh, you guys are really letting your negative perception/feelings of Funn get the better of your fair judgement. Not everything Funn said is sarcastic. I bet if it’s not Funn but someone else made that comment, you won’t find it offending.

Aimee is growing on me. I’m liking her more and more. 1. Her ability to make 1st in such short time. 2. Her ability to put Moses off the market. 3. Her decision to have shotgun marriage was wise. 4. Their baby name choices for both English and Chinese shows they really care and adore the baby. 5. Her ability to pop back into shape after baby (this one is more envy haha). I root for Aimee wooohooo. There! I said it. 🙂

At first, I really hated the two of them for the publicity of their relationship and sort of shoving it down Bernice’s throat. Now, I see them as mature and sensible parents …

Just imagine the poor kid having to write his name out 100 times for misbehaving! LOL
I think her acting part definitely can improve more but it’s not horrendous. Some of her little facial movements are actually quite endearing. She’s not a girl I would go, she undeserving of what’s she’s gotten and accomplished so far, rather she’s someone who I applaud for having a good head on her shoulder. I also watched her interviews, she’s very assertive, not pretentious, and definitely not a bubblehead.
I have watched 5-6 episodes of Outbound love and I like her performance so far. 🙂
And writing 陳梓燁 would be a pain, but it’s a meaningful name! 🙂
Yeah. Outbound love was pretty good. I think she’ll look at this series always with that thought behind her head that she film the falling part (tripping and falling in the rain) with a fetus in her. Aiden, thank goodness nothing bad happened to you!
I just finished watching it, actually, it is pretty good. There are some memorable scenes within Outbound Love.
And Jujubean, most likely she will see that drama as that.
