Alex Fong Bears $4.7 Million Loss to Film New TVB Drama
Alex Fong (方中信) has maintained a cordial relationship with TVB over the years and frequently returns to star in some of its dramas from time to time. Recently, Alex has been invited by his good friend, Marco Law (羅永賢), one of TVB’s top producers, to star in a newly conceptualized legal drama, tentatively titled, Legal High <律政強人>.
Alex will be acting as a lawyer in the drama opposite another TVB veteran, Liu Kai Chi (廖啟智). Filming for Legal High is slated to commence at the end of this year. Taking on the role has allegedly cost Alex about $4.7 million USD, as he has had to reject several other film and drama opportunities in Mainland China in order to free up his schedule. This speaks volumes about Alex’s loyalty to TVB as well as his friendship with Marco.
There is however no need for Alex to worry about finances, as he was recently engaged as the spokesperson for a luxury watch for a seven-figure sum. At the campaign shoot, the photography studio was filled with laughter as Alex not only brought along his beloved pet dog as a “guest star” but was also paired with a gorgeous Russian model who was a whole foot taller than him. As the sight was quite ludicrous, the crew had no choice but to provide a wooden chest for Alex to stand on, so as to even out their discrepancy in height. On this subject, Alex laughed and mocked himself with the Chinese idiom, “For every mountain you see, there will always be one higher.”

Last that I checked, Liu Kai Chi is no longer affiliated with TVB.
@anon And he’s still not. Liu Kai Chi is a free artist so he can film for whoever he wants. I’m actually not surprised that TVB approached him, as it’s obvious from previous management’s comments that they have alot of respect for him.
I am definitely interested in watching this, as I love Liu Kai Chi — don’t care much for the rest of the cast and also don’t have confidence in the script (since it’s TVB after all), but anything that has Uncle Chi in it, I will absolutely watch!
@llwy12 Yes. I will support Uncle Chi too. But I doubt it would be an intense drama though I wish it were. It is a serious drama then I will support it all the way! BTW, I miss the Election”. 🙁
@elizabeth Yea…I hope they don’t end up turning the series into some sort of farce. Whatever the case though, if the series turns out to be “unwatchable” (like most of TVB’s series are nowadays), I’ll just watch Uncle Chi’s scenes and skip everything else.
I miss The Election too – hey, but no worries though, as you can go re-watch the series on Youtube. HKTV started putting their series on their Youtube channel for overseas audiences starting September 21st. They’re uploading 3 episodes or so a week and the series uploaded so far are The Election and Night Shift. I’m binge-re-watching The Election right now and enjoying every minute of it! 🙂
@llwy12
I was trying to imply that the article called him a TVB veteran, which he’s not.
But I do agree that I will check out the movie just for him. Don’t care for the rest of the cast, especially Alex Fong, I’m surprised he’s still in the business after all these years.
@anon Ah, I see. Thanks for clarifying.
Though I’m not too happy about Uncle Chi filming for TVB again because I know their horrible scripts will completely drag his performance down (especially after the career high he got with HKTV’s The Election, which he was beyond amazing in and the script was high caliber as well) — plus he has to babysit newbies who can’t act, which will further drag things down — I will still support his decision and at minimum watch his performance in this series. I’m glad that he didn’t sign with TVB though (during the interview yesterday, he said that he only signed on for this one series and hasn’t decided whether to officially sign with TVB yet, as they are still negotiating a few things)…for his own sake, I am crossing my fingers that he remains freelance and doesn’t sign with TVB, as I don’t want TVB to ruin his career….
This one I will watch! Same title as jap drama of the same name.
with the 2 of them, i will watch it! Whatever the plot is and however lame it may be
i’m so excited to see two top notch actors acting for tvb! the recent casting has been too terrible, i’m glad they are finding actually talented actors
Meh…the Japanese drama of the same name worked because of the chemistry between cast members, witty dialogue and decent script. And it was episodic for the most part.
Frankly, I doubt it will be the same for this drama. And because legal dramas has been done by tvb in nearly every form conceivable, I fear this one will be subject to certain tvb ‘formulas’.
