Andy Lau Will Leave All His Assets to Daughter and Charity
At an earlier Cartier watch exhibit, Andy Lau (劉德華) discussed his love for his family. While he spoke about how much he treasured the watch his father gave him, he also revealed that all his possessions would go to his daughter, Hanna Lau (劉向蕙) and charity.
This is Cartier and Andy’s second collaboration. To celebrate the launch of the its Tank MC line, Cartier revealed an exclusive 90-second short film starring Andy. At the event, Andy also presented the CEO of Cartier, Stanislas de Quercize, with his calligraphy. Andy said he has been a regular customer of Cartier, and that many of his past girlfriends wore Cartier.
When Andy was asked about his watch collection, it brought back bad memories. “When my house was burglarized, I lost more than 40 watches. It was very heart-breaking!” While speaking about his love for watches, Andy revealed that his father has passed down a watch which the elderly Mr. Lau has worn for more than 60 years. Andy revealed, “A watch can stand the test of time. My father has given me the watch and I will most likely pass it down to my daughter. In addition, I will also leave my calligraphy to my daughter. Aside from charity, everything else will be left to my daughter.”
Birthday Wish
For his 52nd birthday celebration, he had a quiet celebration with his family. Although he did not list having a second child as his birthday wish, Andy said that preparing for his upcoming concert would not affect his baby-making plans.
TVB’s Monopoly
Recently, TVB has been criticized for its monopoly of the Hong Kong television industry. Andy felt that the Hong Kong market requires a new system, one which can be adopted from other countries, where the demarcation of the broadcasting and production is clear. Using Louis Koo (古天樂) as an example, Andy said in jest, “There are few contracted artists overseas. It’s time for Hong Kong to change, otherwise, there will be some artists who will always be laughed at for their bad Mandarin. I’m fine in this area. When I heard Louis speak Mandarin recently, it has improved. Now he sounds okay when interviewed.”

Hahaha LOL… cant help but laugh at his NOW baby making plans at age 52…hahah LOL….
Well, that’s the “foolish” male mentality. Men don’t have a biological clock.
Actually, males DO have a biological clock. Science has shown that the risk for Autism in a child grows the older a man gets.
links please.
it is good that he is giving his assest to charity. If only more people in hong kong and mainland would do the same.
How hard is it to use google? You’d have found several links to the connection.

quote from the same article
===========
A 36-year-old father gives twice more new mutations to his child than a 20-year-old father does, and a 50-year-old father gives about four times the number of mutations,” said researcher Kari Stefansson, chairman and CEO of deCODE Genetics in Reykjavik, Iceland. “This is not a subtle effect — this is a very, very large effect. And it increases the probability that a mutation may strike a gene that is very important, which can lead to a disease.”
@TVBFanatic,
Yep, I know. I meant that’s sadly the way most men think.
One reason there’s more and more diseases nowadays is because people are having babies later in life. Seems like “common sense” that younger people have healthier babies.
Ah… yes, I see now. I misread your original statement 🙂 My mistake.
I dont belive this theory.Autism has only increased in the last 20-30 years or so.I am sure pre 1980 there were many fathers who had babies at a later stage in life with no problems.
Part of the reason is that autism is being more recognized now than in the past. It wasn’t diagnosed as much in the past. And if you do another search you’ll see that people are getting married later and later in life, so the increase is there.
besides, if you read the article you’ll notice that it isn’t just autism, but several issues. Basically, as the man gets older, his sperm has more and more “mutations” within it that can lead to issue with the child. That’s the science. Whether you want to believe the science or not is really immaterial.
Increased risk of autism does not equal a biological clock. Women physically cannot conceive children (healthy or not) after menopause whereas men can throughout their lives.
But it is a biological clock. Just because a man can still impregnate does not mean he should. The older he gets, the greater the risk for a unhealthy child. How is that not a biological clock? Read the list of illnesses from the article where the risks grow the older a man gets. I think it’s pretty selfish for a man to risk that on a child just to satisfy his own desires.
Ahm!
Men’s biological clock can also be reflected by increase in the frequency of erectile dysfunction, declining sperm counts, waning libido…..
@TVBFanatic, @Terminator,
Very good points!! LOL 🙂
@TVBFanatic – you forgot to scroll further down the article and quote the following:
“the absolute risk of older fathers conceiving a child that has a life-threatening mutation or other mutation that affects them is still relatively small,” Stefansson cautioned.
In addition, although more mutations might seem damaging, and often can be, the novelty that mutations generate in genomes is a major driver of evolution. “The more mutations we have in the human genome, the more there is diversity for nature to select from.”
Although studies have shown that older fathers pass on more mutations to their offsprings, Stefansson realizes the need to hedge and speak with caution as well as to recognize that mutations can be both destructive and constructive.
I’d like to recommend a book to you called Mutants by Armand Marie Leroi. To quote Mr. Leroi: “We are all mutants. But some of us are more mutant than others.”
1 percent to charities, 99 percent to daughter, nothing for wife
His wife will be fine. Get a grip, people. What he means is since his daughter is his only heir, she will inherit most of his wealth. Parents passing on their assets to their children. Don’t be so quick to bash him just because he didn’t specifically mention his wife.
Why don’t you people jump on Jackie Chan, who says he will give nothing to his son or “daughter”?
But what about his wife…?
Wow, kinda shows that his marriage is not what he tries to make it appear to be. Always thought it was a bit weird and maybe he was trapped/tricked into it for some reason. Wonder if she has some unpleasant info about him that he doesn’t want leaked and that’s why it’s such a strange marriage.
This kinda lends some proof that he values his daughter over his “hidden” wife now.
Also that weird fact that he said his old GFs wore that brand of watch. Why would you mention that? lol
Usually when rich people die they leave a substantial part to the wife and enough for the child’s upbringing+college. Not all to charity and daughter and none to wife. 0.o very iiiinteresting…..
Panzer, you are one smart person. You said a lot and spoke true volumes with your comment, with every single paragraph.
Andy’s wife is not from such a well off family as the press would like the press would like us to believe.
@Panzer, again, you are one smart cookie.
His daughter would inherit so much wealth. He should spend time teaching his daughter that it takes a lot of effort and hard work to earn money.
This 100%. I have been spoiled for most of my life because my dad is just TOO lenient. All he does is throw money at me and be on his way. I couldn’t take it any more after seeing how all my friends are working class members in society. I moved out and working my butt off on my own…Remember how we wished to grow up when we were young? Now I wish to grow “down” hahaha….life is tough.
Announcing this may make her daughter a target for fortune hunters when she’s grown up.
Hmm… I thought I read somewhere that his wife is now 3 months pregnant with a boy. So, her daughter may have to share or get a smaller share.
If anything, I think I admire his resilience to all the criticism he has been getting for wanting privacy for his wife, and yet still stand firmly on his grounds for so many years. He does not fall on pressure from everyone, which to me, shows how much he values her, instead of how he looks in front of others.
There’s reasons for everything that ppl do.
Also, I’m sure if he ever did mention his wife, there would be endless articles buzzing around him like crazy. What matters is his family knowing the truth, not us.
after reading title, first thought: lol, what about his wife?
Same here.
I think he should say family instead if he does have intention to leave some for wife.
His wife comes from a well off family, so I don’t think she would need his money. Also, who said that he had to mention everyone that will be on his will??? If he has that much money, he may even leave some to his siblings and their families. But of course, who said that he had to mention it in detail??? It does make sense to say that you will leave everything to your kids after you leave this world. In Andy’s case, he only has one daughter so of course whatever he has will go to her.
Another PUBLICITY Stunt.
Don’t take his statement seriously.
If serious about charity, do it now not until he is dead and gone.
right, therefor im a great fan of jet li with his one foundation,if you have a real heart for ppl then do it when are a in life and not when you are dead. ppl in need cant wait till his dead lol.
In case you did not know, Andy has done a lot of charity work before so I wonder why everyone is dismissing that?? Everyone makes it seems like Andy is the worse person in the world that has never helped anyone or has done any charity work before when he has. However, if you are an Andy hater, then you would just look at his bad and disregard all his good traits and not give him any credit for the good things he does.
im not a andy hater,in fact he is one of the biggest stars of hk.i like his well known working ethics and represents our hk fighting spirits. but what i want to say is if you want to help ppl and willing to donate half of your wealth after you dead, why not doing now. you can help so many more ppl in need then over about 30 or 40 years after his dead.
my granny in hong kong met lau dah wah in some kind of Buddhist charity function.
For those who are well-off, is it necessary to leave their assets to their children? If they do a recent job in bringing up their children, can their kids survive on their own? I am sure many first generation millionaires/billionaires worked hard to be where they are and they deserve to enjoy their successes with big mansions and other expensive collections. However, when does one decide that all these materialistic things are enough? Is it necessary to pass on those materialistic assets or wealth to the future generations so they don’t have to work hard to earn a living or “so-called” enjoy life? Why shouldn’t we allow them the opportunity to work hard to earn their own living? Is it better to leave or distribute the assets to those who are really in need? Such as the elders, the disabled, the abused children/women across the globe? Or distribute the assets to support medical, biotechnology research? When and how do we decide whether to leave our hard-earned money to our family or to charities (either one could irresponsibly spend what took us years to earn)? Or we simply shouldn’t care because we won’t be here to see how things play out anyways? Just some philosophical questions…
Well, it depends on what kind of a parent you are. Some parents struggled hard during their younger days to be where they are (whether successful or otherwise) and they want their children to go through the same so that they do not take things for granted. However, this may backfire and the children end up hating their parents and as such, in the end the parents would rather leave their fortune to charities or their pet just to spite their children.
Some parents have gone through hardship and do not wish their children to go through the same, therefore they’ll give everything they can to their children. If they’re fortunate to have filial children who appreciates what is given then it’s fine. Otherwise, it’s also another sad case.
If I were fortunate enough to be so rich, I think I may set aside 30% of what I have in a trust fund for charities, research into cure for life threatening disease and for those needy that require funds for life-saving operations. 70% would of course be for my loved ones. I don’t think I can bear the thought of giving all to charity and leaving my kids with nothing regardless of how good or bad they are.
If I am not mistaken Bill Gates donates all his wealth to a foundation for Afican children and some reseach medical for disease and he only left a little sum just enough to live for his children ; he says all these ppl need money more than his children.
POOR WIFEY
When Andy was with the Taiwanese woman, he was barely in his twenties. He was very young and not even close to being a well known person.
He met Zhu Liqian , or Carol when she was a teen and they fell in love. For awhile he went back and forth between her and the Taiwanese girl till finally, he chose Carol because she was willing to be molded by him to be his ideal idea of a girlfriend or wife.
Yet I hear he was so faithful and true to carol for over 25 plus years. All of a sudden, he is saying all his ex girlfriends wore Cartier watches?????????. Excuse me?????????!!!.
hat is either for promotional sake for the watch, which is false advertising from Andy, which is quite shallow and low, or he cheated left, right and centre on Carol. You guys can do the math.
Carol’s family is not as well off as many think. Comfortable financially, YES. Very rich or wealthy, NO.
What a bad picture of Andy he looks old and resembles a bit like the retired actor can’t remember his name ppl used to call him “Ah Chan” from TVb his Chinese is “Lau Wai Hong “some thing like that…
He has denied that his wife is pregnant in Nanjing during his concert tour.
Hope he is not lying.
If it is true then he has put his wife Carol on risk as well as having a down-syndrome baby.
Medical technology can only scanned for fetus physical deformities but not mental abnormality.
sick of this old andy lau and news of him and his wife already. so much publicity for a talentless idol.
thanks.. so u r too talentless
