Annie Liu Excited About TVB’s “Beyond the Realm of Conscience 2”
Annie Liu (劉心悠) is very much looking forward to filming TVB’s upcoming grand production, Beyond the Realm of Conscience 2 <深宮計>.
The Tang dynasty drama, a sister production to 2009’s smash hit Beyond the Realm of Conscience <宮心計>, will see the return of producer Mui Siu-ching (梅小青) at the helm. Beyond 2 will star Annie Liu in her first TVB drama, costarring with Steven Ma (馬浚偉), Nancy Wu (胡定欣), and Alice Chan (陳煒).
At a skincare function Annie attended earlier this week, the Scarlet Heart <步步驚心> actress revealed more tidbits about the upcoming project, and shared that it was actually her Natural Born Lover <天生愛情狂> costar, Chilam Cheung (張智霖), who had encouraged her to film for TVB.
Annie said, “When Chilam was filming Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II> a few years ago, he was already encouraging me to film more television dramas. He said actors should try more different things. It’s always been a goal of mine to film [a Hong Kong drama].”
The 35-year-old actress has already met up with producer Mui Siu-ching to talk about the story, and is extremely touched by Mui’s sincerity on the project. Portraying a Tang dynasty princess who is skilled in martial arts, Annie said she really looks forward to her wirework stunts.
Although Beyond 2 will not begin principal photography until next February, Annie has already started training. Aware of TVB’s hectic filming schedules, she will work more on her endurance training. Annie said she is mentally prepared for the challenge. Cherishing the opportunity, she does not mind the lower pay.
Beyond 2 will also be Annie’s first collaboration with Steven Ma and Nancy Wu. Annie said she regards them as her seniors and will not compete for the TV Queen title.
Pointing out that Beyond 2 is a Tang dynasty drama, would she have to wear low-cut dresses like the actresses in Fan Bingbing’s (范冰冰) The Empress of China <武則天>? Annie laughed and said, “Wow! I’ve seen The Empress of China. Their outfits are too sexy. I’m not that daring. I know there’s a limit to television. Shirts that are too low-cut cannot go on broadcast. It’s going to get pixelated!”

Well, there’s an addition for Best Actress candidates next year lol
@tiffany lol
well TVB spending big $ to get Annie. So only Steven as leading male? i’m not a fan. Will just watch it for Nancy, Annie and Alice.
I lurv Annie Liu. She has such a gorgeous aura around her.
But she’s too good for TVB, IMO. She could do better. It’s not like her canto is up to par either. She’s much better being a beautiful goddess in some higher quality production.
Also, Mui Siu-ching…I have my reservations about her. Sure she’s a good person, but not so sure how great she is with plot. All of her dramas kind of follow the same pattern. Even better actors/actresses can’t save a drama if the plot’s bad.
@coralie love Annie myself. There is something beautiful and classy about her that I like.
Acutally a fan of mui sui ching drama. Yes there is always something similar about it but it works for me. Hehehehhe also nice to see Steven Ma here as I like his acting. Miss seeing him in a tvb drama.
@coralie
couldn’t agree more. i don’t like miu siu ching’s dramas. i didn’t think much about the first one although it was big at the time and created a new phrase in the chinese lanuage but i didn’t think it was anything to rave about. the story was pretty typical of any chinese harem story.
@m0m0 yeah not a fan of MSC, but she knows how to pick a good cast, at least
excited to see Annie in a new drama and with Steven too! At least he gets a new female costar that he will be paired up with since usually for TVB he gets paired up with the same ones
LOVE Annie, I also think she’s too good for TVB and a kungfu fighting princess sounds a little corny to me but we’ll see. I’m excited about this drama since I love the first one so much. I’m rewatching it right now :D.
Wow!! She’s a beauty!! Hope Annle Liu will pair up with Steven!!
@snoopy
I thought she was the prettiest Taiwan star when I saw that series with Blue Lan but sadly she’s never been really popular. She was always overshadowed by the main leads when she can very well be a lead. oh well, no luck I guess. TVB is known to be cheap but hope she will get even more exposure and in demand after this. It’s fortunate for TVB since they have the same faces over and over again this face will be very refreshing.
It is always very telling that an actress is in the twilight of her career whenever she has to slump down to film for TVB, who never pay up for marquee value. LOL!
Beautiful, but can’t act.
