ATV Makes Last Walk for “Walk for Millions”
Over a hundred TVB artists took part in the annual Walk for Millions charity event this week. They were met with artists from rival stations Metro Radio and ATV, but unlike previous years, ATV only appeared with a little over 20 artists. ATV would be giving up its free-to-air license on April 1, 2016.
ATV artists who have attended the walk, including Lau Sek-ming (劉錫賢) and Grace Cheung (張家瑩), expressed that this year may be their last year to represent ATV in the walk. Although it’s been a heavy ride for many ATV artists in the past year, actor Lau Sek-ming said he felt thankful and grateful after seeing so many supporters at the event.
“This will be ATV’s last time walking as a free broadcaster,” said Lau Sek-ming. “But who knows? Maybe we will appear again in a different format.”
Grace said, “We don’t know if this will be the last time, but we will continue to do our best. This is one of the rare opportunities where we get to see our colleagues. We rarely get the chance to do that.”
In regards to their contractual obligations to ATV, Grace said her contract with ATV will end before the Lunar New Year. She does not know if she will extend her contract, but she hinted that they would be in talks. “I do want to continue filming more projects,” she admitted.
TVB artists Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and William Chak (翟威廉), who were formerly under ATV, greeted their their old colleagues in wide arms. Upon seeing his old friends, Ruco joked, “Still the same! Not much plastic surgery done!”
