“Beyond the Dream” Leads Find Critical Success
Terrance Lau (劉俊謙) and Cecilia Choi (蔡思韵), stars of last year’s romance film Beyond the Dream <幻愛>, is kickstarting a new generation of actors.
Beyond the Dream follows the story Ah Lok, a patient who recently recovered from schizophrenia. After his meeting with Yan-yan, he is reminded why he was afraid to fall in love.
“This film is full of hallucinations,” said director Kiwi Chow (周冠威). “Sometimes they’re real, sometimes they’re not. Sometime they’re so perfect that they couldn’t be real. That is the cruelty of perfection.”
On why he chose Terrance for the role of Lok, Director Chow said, “He was the most natural performer. He didn’t play the role like a schizophrenic patient.”
For the role of Lok, Terrance received a nomination for Best New Performer, and Cecilia received a nomination for Best Actress for the upcoming 39th Hong Kong Film Awards. 31-year-old Terrance graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2012. He started to gain recognition following his performance in Dayo Wong’s (黃子華) play Skylight <前度>. He starred in the Viu TV dramas Margaret & David – Ex <瑪嘉烈與大衛系列 – 前度> and Next Exit <未來還未來>.
26-year-old Cecilia graduated from the Taipei National University of the Arts in 2016 and came to prominence after starring in the Taiwanese horror film Detention <返校> and the Netflix series Triad Princess <極道千金>, both in 2019.
