Bobby Au Yeung Refuses to Cut Off Alcohol Despite Hospitalization
Bobby Au Yeung (歐陽震華) continues to make good progress in his recovery after he was brought into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on the second day of the Lunar New Year for acute pneumonia. He has since been transferred to the acute comprehensive medical ward section at Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai. Taken off an IV drip, Bobby’s appetite has returned.
Bobby was rushed to the hospital on Monday last week after swallowing food too quickly down his windpipe which caused him to have acute pneumonia. After 4 days in the ICU, he was transferred out due his progress and the lack of hospital bed space.
Food Cravings
After almost a week in the hospital, doctors gave Bobby the nod of approval to take in solid food. Not wasting a second, he called his wife, Rosanna Fu (傅潔嫻) immediately to bring him minced beef rice. Rosanna said with a grin, “I only brought him soup and rice which he finished in no time! After a break, he told me he craved potato biscuits!” Now that he is up on his feet and expecting visitors, Bobby also requested to be allowed to go into the washroom so that he can clean himself up.
Yesterday afternoon, good friend Nick Cheung (張家輝) paid Bobby a visit after Rosanna informed his friends that he is ready for visitors. Nick was initially concerned when he saw how worn-out Bobby looked but was immediately relieved when the latter did not lose his wits. When Nick told Bobby that he should cut off alcohol for half a year, Bobby answered that even if his wife were to watch over him for 24 hours, he will still find excuses to go out to buy alcohol.
Bobby also seems alert enough to make use of the opportunity to get Nick to go back to TVB to partner him in a drama serial. To that, Nick did not decline but would consider given the right script.
Never Forgetting About Work
Bobby’s manager, Lydia, confirmed that he is quickly and surely getting back his health as his windpipe is cleaned out and he has also done a full body check up. However, he still has to remain in the hospital for several more days. TVB producer, Chong Wai Kin (莊偉健), who went to visit also advised Bobby to focus on recuperating and only return back to work when he has fully recovered.
Esther Kwan (關詠荷) visited Bobby at the hospital today, bringing the well wishes of the Love Reverses Three Lifetimes of Fate <情逆三世緣>cast and crew. Esther had wished to join Nick in visiting Bobby yesterday, but she was busy filming at TVB Studios. Esther said that she did not have any particular health advice for Bobby, “After this incident, he knows what to do himself. The most important thing is that he is responsible to his wife.”

He is an alcoholic? Pneumonia is due to alcoholism? I am confused.
Funn,
Cutting off alcohol is for general health. Nick likely just wishes Bobby recover quicker. According to Bobby’s manager, he swallowed food too quickly down his windpipe.
Nick probably mentioned the alcohol thing as a joke because that’s what the HK Media kept bringing up as the ‘rumored’ cause of Bobby’s hospitalization (once again, the Media just has to stir up things – looks like they couldn’t accept the doctor’s diagnosis of food being swallowed too quickly and lodging in the wrong place….I guess that’s too ‘normal’ a thing for it to happen to a celebrity…LOL). Even after all his friends came out and said he wasn’t drinking much that night and his manager repeatedly denied the alcohol rumors, the reports continued to come out that it was alcohol-related (typical stupid Media)….
Anyway, definitely glad to hear that Bobby is recovering well. I was already relieved when I heard his manager tell reporters a few days ago that Bobby was watching TV and ‘pouting’ whenever food commercials would come on (since he couldn’t eat solid foods yet at the time)…once I heard that his ‘trademark’ sense of humor was back, I knew he would be just fine. :0)
Glad to see that Bobby is having a speedy recovery. He does know that.. too much alcohol isn’t good for health.. right?!
hope he takes care of himself!
Glad to see him getting better and having such great friends visiting him. How sweet!!
