Bosco Wong’s Popularity Rises as Kevin Cheng Hits Bump in Mainland Market
Since 2012, Bosco Wong (黄宗泽) has already completed three mainland Chinese dramas including Racecourse <跑马场>, The Woman Above the Bread Tree <面包树上的女人>, and Young Sherlock <少年神探狄仁杰>. Initially paid 100,000 RMB per episode, Bosco’s filming fees have soared to 250,000 RMB per episode, which is comparable to TV King Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎). In March this year, Bosco flew to Hengdian to film his fourth mainland series, Detective Yang Jin Bang <神探杨金邦>.
Bosco Mixes Well with Co-stars
Bosco has a great relationship with the cast and crew members of Detective Yang Jin Bang. Although his Mandarin still needs improvement, he conversed with others as much as possible to improve his skills. Bosco also studied the script diligently to memorize his dialogue.
During his free time, Bosco went grocery shopping and prepared soup for the cast and crew. When others invited him out to dinner, he was also sure to attend. The production company has been treating Bosco very well. Detective Yang Jin Bang was supposed to film during the summer, but the schedule was pushed earlier since Bosco cannot withstand the scorching heat.
Kevin Cheng’s Popularity Declines in Mainland China?
In contrast, Kevin Cheng reportedly did not get along well with the filming crew and exhibited poor attitude. While filming Ip Man <葉問>, it was understood that Kevin’s offensive remarks provoked a martial artiste into inflicting real injuries upon him.
Although Kevin’s career received a boost after Bu Bu Jing Xin <步步惊心>, his popularity has declined since Yip Man aired. Viewers felt his action scenes were poorly performed and his acting was not up to par. His Mainland dramas, Red Dust <滚滚红尘> and Hero <英雄>, only received mediocre ratings. Furthermore, the broadcast dates for two of his other dramas, Love and Passion <万水千山风雨情>, as well as Hua Xu Yin <华胥引之绝爱之城>, remain unfinalized.
Since then, Kevin has not been offered any more scripts from Mainland production companies. He reportedly returned to TVB to film Eye in the Sky <天眼> after realizing his career in mainland China has come to a halt.

‘Yip Man ‘ – you mean Ip Man?
Kevin’s status and acting abilities have always been overrated ………..all because of the media creating some sort of hype over his good looks.
He’s really not that talented as an actor.
Kevin looks so unnatural in the pic
Personally, his pictures (on this website) has been looking unnatural lately. I don’t remember him looking like this in bbjx. I thought the aging complimented him very well.
I refuse to believe this (on Kevin’s part). Just mere slander. As far as I know, he got on well with colleagues and crew and he opened up. As for popularity, let’s wait for Bosco to have a mega hit.
Yeah all along I read that he got along very well with people in Mainland? Was surprised to see suddenly these negative remarks. Guess reporters all have great imagination lol..
i also think he is more opened up now,he is more relaxed in interviews.maybe through the bad work relationship with other crew members in the past that made him change his attitude to be more open and sociable to other ppl.
Red Dust is great.. The storyline is great.. And I like the female lead.. Recommended.. Just my opinion..
Kevin attitude…thats OLD news….its keeps appearing that you cannot help but to believe it…
I dont think Kevin has poor attitude. I think he should be doing ok with his co stars
Has any of Bosco’s series been aired in China? How is the ratings?
Kidd,
Bosco and Myolie’s mainland series, “Racecourse” was aired on CCTV (?) which may not have pulled in strong ratings.
If his series didn’t pull in strong rating, I wonder why his price increase by double.
Not surprised if Bosco Wong got along very well with the crew while filming in Mainland China due to his flexible and friendly personality. On the other hand, Kevin Cheng is a bit quiet and aloof in personality. Probably Kevin Cheng should haven’t accepted to film “Ip Man” since he is never a martial artiste and Ip Man was an excellent martial master some years ago.
Personally feel Bosco is more versatile in his acting if you ask me to choose between him, Kevin Cheng, Moses Chan, what’s the other guy’s name that starts with R? Not Ruco Chan… Kevin Cheng’s acting skills were not up to the par which I agree, these days actors are not as versatile or should I say born with natural acting talent. Good luck to Bosco.
Ah, I remember now, Ron Ng, hmm not good also.
OK, the hype is officially over!
Kevin Cheng is no longer “very popular in Mainland”. Not that there are any proofs that he ever was as every one of his post “BBJX” drama has been a flop.
Kevin need to get a tan and grow a mustache. His recent pix is not cute. Did he get Botox?
Bosco’s popularity can only rise as he looks personable and is well grounded. Unfortunately, the tabloids is dragging his personal and romance issues into the fray which may have an adverse impact on his acting if he pays personal attention to it and can’t concentrate on his scripts.
“…it was understood that Kevin’s offensive remarks provoked a martial artiste into inflicting real injuries upon him.”
If he indeed has bad attitudes, this proves why he was always injured during filming. And popularity declines? Since when he has been popular in China? Media exaggeration.
Mere speculation! Reporters just seem so ready to bash him up for not reason.
