Carlos Chan on Working with “Devil Director” Dante Lam Again
After four years, actor Carlos Chan (陳家樂) reunited with Dante Lam (林超賢), who earned himself the title of “Devil Director” because of his high expectations from actors. Earlier, Carlos was hand-picked to participate in Dante’s new movie The Rescue <緊急救援>. Despite previously fracturing his left hand while working on To the Fore <破風> with Dante in 2015, Carlos accepted the invitation.
Speaking of injuring himself while shooting To the Fore, Carlos said, “I got hurt because I was too happy and excited. I ignored the safety precautions at the moment. Now that I’m older, I know how to analyze if my environment is safe or not. When I shoot a scene, I have to remind myself that I can’t get distracted.”
He added that he felt assured this time as Dante personally demonstrated a scene for him without protective gear. “It boosted the team morale, and everyone is willing to work hard,” Carlos expressed.
In The Rescue, Carlos stars alongside Taiwanese star Eddie Peng (與彭于), and Mainland actors Ian Wang (王彥霖) and Xin Zilei (辛芷蕾). While Ian acknowledged Dante as a “Devil Director,” he said with a smile, “He is more demanding of himself, and he is very hands-on with everything.”
In fact, Zilei, who played Jiayu in Mainland Drama Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace <如懿传>, said Dante warned her of the hardships filming an action drama. “He told me not to take it if I won’t be able to handle it. I’m not afraid of hardships and will do my best,” she said.
