Cecilia Cheung Tells Sheren Tang What Type of Men Pleases Her
Cecilia Cheung (張栢芝) is known to fall madly in love each time, throwing herself completely into a relationship. From her divorce with Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒) to having a third child when she was already a single mother, Cecilia may seem impetuous. Her love life has certainly been dramatic, but the 41-year-old reveals that she is actually very selective in dating.
In an earlier episode of Chinese variety show Life is Beautiful <讓生活好看2>, Cecilia shared with former co-star and good friend, Sheren Tang (鄧萃雯), what type of men catches her eye. The pair had starred in 1999’s Fly Me to Polaris <星願>, and although they did not always stay in touch, Cecilia views Sheren as a sister, but refers to herself as a “bad younger sister.”
Often, Cecilia would only reach out to Sheren when things are not going well. Despite this, Cecilia is touched that Sheren remembers things she has shared in the past and finds the older actress to be a very tolerant friend.
Lots of Pursuers, But Cecilia Remains Selective
Now that Cecilia has moved to Shanghai, Sheren teased that there are more men to choose from. Cecilia joked, “There are a lot if you are willing to go out and meet them. I go out to the gym and there are quite a few men who want to add me on social media. I’ve added one or two of them.”
On a more serious note, Cecilia is now much more selective in dating. “Actually, I have quite a few pursuers, but I have not settled on one yet. Remember the one you know about? I got along with him very well, because he doesn’t care about the small stuff. He’ll go wherever he wants, and doesn’t care if I don’t wear makeup. I want a relationship [like that] where I don’t have to worry about every little thing. Those types of relationships don’t last.”
When Sheren probed about what happened to this man, Cecilia said, “If they are clingy to me, I don’t like it. When they aren’t attached to me, I don’t like it either! If they are too nice to me, I don’t like it. When they aren’t nice enough, I don’t like it either! I am very picky now, because I really want to find someone who truly loves me.”
“Love is Everything”
Currently single at 55 years old, Sheren lamented that due to her celebrity status, many are unwilling to date her because of the risk of privacy and being photographed in public. Cecilia responded, “From my perspective, I feel that love is everything. If you love me, you should be brave for me. It doesn’t matter who I am, because [if you love me] you wouldn’t want to lose me!”
As an artiste, there are risks Cecilia would have to take too if she were to get seriously involved with someone. “I have to brave to love him, and be with him for the rest of my life too. If he can’t even deal with such a minor thing and is afraid of everything, then this type of love is too troublesome.”
Even if she finds Mr. Right, Cecilia does not want to reveal his identity publicly. Presumably, she was seriously involved with the father of her third son Marcus since she decided to have another baby, yet she never disclosed his identity. Although she was open with the media before about men she had dated, Cecilia felt it only attracted negative gossip. “I don’t feel like I get a lot of well wishes. Now, I am more afraid that the paparazzi will find out. I will never talk about my love life [anymore] with the paparazzi!”
