Chantel Yiu Celebrates Sweet 16th with Fans

To celebrate their idol turning sixteen on September 22, fans of Chantel Yiu (姚焯菲) came together and gave the Stars Academy alumnus a surprise birthday party at Hong Kong Disneyland!

On how she was “tricked” into turning up at the secret venue, Chantel said, “Actually I don’t know about the birthday surprise…at the start they told me (we had to) go to Sunny Bay to retake scenes for the MV of “Sunshine Air” <陽光與空氣>, but I was wondering how is that possible, since the MV is already out,” Feeling a little doubtful, she asked Aska Cheung (張馳豪), who corroborated the account, so Chantel went along. Calling the experience “truly unforgettable”, she added, “But I’m really happy, as I hadn’t thought about having a birthday party here when I was younger, plus, I didn’t know birthday parties could actually be held in Disneyland!”

Not Thinking About Relationships Just Yet

Asked if she would be celebrating her big day via a date with an admirer of the opposite sex, Chantel said she is cool with going out together in “a group of friends”, not because of her father, but because she finds going out one-on-one “inappropriate”. As for whether she looks forward to dating, the teen singer says she is not entertaining thoughts at the moment.

Elaborating, she shared, “(He) didn’t say if it’s okay or not (to date), or at what age (I will be) permitted…but he wants me to think about it when I’m more mature, (and) I agree,” On the lack of privacy as an artiste, Chantel said, “Of course there’ll be (a lack of freedom)…but I feel that all (these) are sacrifices, I wouldn’t find it very pitiful, or say that I don’t enjoy (being) in this line because of it,”
