Charmaine Sheh to Film for TVB in 2014

At the Hong Kong Green Day Launching Ceremony today, Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) shared that she will once again film for TVB as early as next year.

Since Charmaine’s management contract with TVB terminated in 2011, many entertainment companies tried to entice Charmaine to join their ranks. Charmaine opted to develop her career in mainland China instead, and signed with Creative Entertainment until March this year. Since then, Emperor Entertainment Group, HKTV, and now TV were all rumored to have met with Charmaine to negotiate filming contracts. As Charmaine still has a 20-episode filming obligation with TVB, many fans are anxiously awaiting news about their idol’s return.

Earlier, reports surfaced that Eric Tsang (曾志偉) was in discussion with Charmaine to star in a drama with movie king Tony Leung Ka Fai (梁家輝), Michael Miu (苗僑偉), and Raymond Lam (林峯). Charmaine admitted she wants to work with Tony and Michael and vowed to do her best to participate in the series.

At today’s event, reporters were quick to ask Charmaine about her negotiations with Eric. She shared that she had indeed met with Eric but they were not negotiating contracts. Charmaine also denied joining Eric’s management company. When asked if she was invited to film, Charmaine replied, “I was asked to earlier. I will return to film for TVB next year at the earliest. Definitely not this year… basically we made a verbal agreement to film next year. I can’t film so many series at once, so I won’t be able to film this year.”

Reporters then asked if she is returning to rescue TVB from its low ratings, hinting at the failure of the poorly-received palace drama Beauty at War <金枝慾孽貳>. Charmaine shared that she has seen and enjoyed the drama. “I did watch [Beauty at War]. My answer is rather biased because I have read the script and I understood it. I was supposed to film this series but couldn’t because of Legend of Yuan Empire Founder <建元風雲>. I don’t find the story confusing at all, but it may be because I have read the script beforehand… Don’t ask me [for my opinion]! I am a big fan of Jonathan Chik (戚其義) and Chow Yuk Ming (周旭明). I like their series regardless of reviews or ratings.”

Charmaine seemed excited about TVB’s newly established rules of providing 8-hour breaks for artists, as well as having 80 percent script completion prior to filming. “Many series have completed scripts. I am very happy about the 8-hour breaks! It is very important for actors to have breaks. Not having enough rest would affect our performance, and that would be unfair to our viewers.”

  1. yes!! Love her!! but please no Raymond in the new drama please

  2. wait, she read the script? wasn’t the scripts for baw only available like a day before filming was due?

    1. I’m sure the principal script and storyline have already been done. Scripts are usually re-written or edited prior to filming I think.

      1. She was originally supposed to be in this series (:

      2. Fortunately for her to not be in this series.

    2. She probably just read the storyline, not the script.

Anyways, super excited that she’s coming back to film this TVB drama with Tony Leung Ka Fai, Michael Miu and Raymond Lam. The cast is stellar!!! SO LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.

      AHHHHH!! OMG!!! SO EXCITED!!!

  3. RAYMOND LAM AND CHARMAINE SHEH YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Oh and Michael Miu is just an added bonus 😉

  4. I live how Charmaine answers in her interview. She seem smart. Can’t wait to see her in TVB’s series

    1. @ Erica: I totally agree with you.
She always has so much poise, and answers with grace. She never offends anyone, and is never rude. Even when reporters/interviewers ask challenging/mean questions, or write untrue, scandalous things about her, she never loses composure. An intelligent, talented woman, with extremely high EQ. She is a role model for me, I really look up to her.

  5. LOVE CHARMAINE SHEH! 😛
so glad that she decided to film for tvb again!

  6. I’m looking forward to her return. I hope she pairs up with Michael.

  7. TVB learnt their lessons and get their scripts organize and give staffs 8hours rest. Not a fan of Ah Sheh but it will good to see her back.

  8. Btw, her (ex)management company is MediaQuiz, not Creative.

  9. I don’t get it. Charmaine said she read the script, she understood it, Sheren who is in the series says she never got completed script or was it that the script changes with too short time limit and she doesn’t understand the script? So who is right and who is being diplomatic?

    1. I think the scriptwriter is a perfectionist, he wanted things to be perfect.. Perhaps, Charamine Sheh saw the ‘blueprint’ of the final script?

    2. Perhaps the main concept wasnt changed, and thats how charmaine managed to understand the storyline? Also charmaine seems to be rather quick-witted, so its not too surprising.

    3. Charmaine probably had read the initial manuscripts and had an idea of the overall concept. Perhaps with that knowledge she could understand the story from the perspective of a viewer. Sheren on the other hand had to effectively portray her character onscreen and the last minute script changes put her under a lot of stress which according to herself affected her perfomance.

    4. Before the series started, the major characters would have been given a manuscript, which they will discuss with 771 and Chow on the character and the story board. True the cast does not receive a full script (dialogues), but they are expected to interpret and understand the character accordingly.

That is also how I interpret from Ada & Kenny feedback regarding the last minute script issue and how they overcame the challenges. Of course no one is happy with flying scripts and memorizing new dialogues, but they are not confused abt their characters and it helped them to adjust to the new dialogues faster.

  10. So happy that she’s agreed to do this TVB series. I just know that it’ll be good.

    P.S.
I’d never admit it if you asked me in person but I want to say that I’m so in love with her.
(BTW, I’m a girl and completely straight).

      1. HAHA
        yeah, I think that’s what it’s called.

MAJOR girl crush on Charmaine Sheh.

    1. Welcome to the club. Nearly a decade and I still have girl crush on her 🙂

  11. shes pretty an accomplished actress and looks good for her age.looking forward to her series.

  12. how can she able to get hold of the script if she is not even shooting for the series?

  13. I really miss her and admire her. Really happy that she is filming the new tvb drama. She is an amazing and wonderful woman.

  14. OMG ! Love Charmaine , please come back to tvb very excited miss her so much…..sooooooo

  15. Please don’t let her film. She’s a big fan of Jonathan Chik because most of her drama are his production, which sucks

  16. I wonder which female co star is going to collaborate with charmaine sheh.

  17. Am watching Country Spirit on TV now (rerun). Love it, and love watching her. Great casts and great storyline, if only TVB series now still maintain that kind of standard.

  18. “I don’t find the story confusing at all, but it may be because I have read the script beforehand…”

I have not read the script beforehand and I also don’t find the story confusing. It’s not that hard to understand.

CYK and 772 series might be slow and sometimes boring, with too much philosophying, but, CYK has reasons before every scene and every dialogue, so that the who story is well put together, unlike Bullet Brain which is like a patchwork with elements from here and there.

  19. Good to have a now very famous familiar face, Charmaine, to work at TVB again. She should be able to give new life to it with her presence.

  20. Sounds good. Hope story will be good quality. Miss good quality scripts like Country Spirit. Great song in that series as well.

    1. Country Spirit wasn’t bad (and of course loved the theme song…lol) but overall I actually liked its predecessors (Plain Love and Plain Love II) better. I enjoyed the pairings more in those 2 than in Country Spirit, plus the plots were alot better (CS drags a bit in certain places….)

  21. Never really thought much of her acting until I saw When Heaven Burns, her best role to date. Such an underrated and misunderstood series, it would of done great if it wasn’t a TVB production cause their audiences prefer something more obvious and simple. But then again they’ll complain when it’s too obvious and simple, can’t satisfy everyone.

She does well in certain roles.

  22. Tentatively excited about her joining but Is still think TVB’s major problem area is script writing. So regardless of whichever mega stars they get on board, the script will fail.

    1. yes – agree. The major problem now is script.

  23. I admit to disliking her in the early years (ugh Seven Sisters and HSDS), but she started to really impress in Maiden’s Vow. Absolutely mesmerizing in When Heaven Burns. When Charmaine is onscreen now I can’t take my eyes off her – can’t say the same about most leading ladies these days.
