Chilam Cheung’s 2 Year Old Son Has an Affinity for Buddhism
Chilam Cheung recorded a Buddhist song yesterday. He felt honored to sing the song and hopes that this song will hold its place among Buddhist music.
Chilam felt that his two-year-old son, Morton, has Buddhist inclinations. “Last year, I brought home Buddhist scriptures written in Sanskrit by His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa from India. I was stunned to see little Morton bow several times before the scriptures. Perhaps he has an affinity for Buddhism. I hope he will grow up to be a good person. When he is older, I will take him to India for pilgrimage.”
While visiting India, Chi Lam went to see the Bodhi tree [a direct descendent of the sacred fig tree] where Siddhartha Gautama became enlightened as the Buddha. It was memorable moment for Chilam.
Did Chilam let Morton listen to Buddhist songs? Chilam laughed, “For the time being , Morton listens mainly to children’s songs. However, he has heard my songs and will recognize which songs are sung by his father.”
How are Morton’s singing skills? “Not very good.” Who does Morton resemble? “Morton is like me. He possesses my sense of humor and cheerful personality, which are important qualities.”
Chapman To Man Chak has been a Buddhist since he was a youth. His Buddhist name is “Karma Dawa.” Last year, his wife converted to Buddhism as well. Since becoming a Buddhist, did this temper Chapman’s temper? “Yes, it’s been a good change. In the past, I often concentrated on the shortcomings of people. But Buddhism has helped me to focus on people’s positive traits.” Did Chapman consider becoming a monk in the short-term? “Of course! If I had the opportunity practice [enlightenment] behind closed doors, that would be even better.”
