Chilam Cheung and Anita Yuen Send Happy Blessings for All

For the past year, celebrity couple Chilam Cheung (張智霖) and Anita Yuen (袁詠儀) barely had the time to see each other, but now with work schedules that are more free, the couple is making up for lost time.

Documenting her mini-adventures with Chilam on her Weibo, Anita uploaded a picture of herself and Chilam sunbathing together on August 11. Two days later, Chilam and Anita withstood the number 3 typhoon to celebrate Chilam’s Lunar year birthday at a popular ramen restaurant.

On August 21, Anita updated her Weibo again with a photo album of her and Chilam releasing captive fish to the sea. Both devout Buddhists, Chilam and Anita were performing life release – a traditional Buddhist practice that involves the purchasing of animals that are destined to be slaughtered and releasing them.

Anita wrote on her Weibo, “Originally we planned for the life release last week, but due to the typhoon it was cancelled. But if you keep it on your mind, there will be an echo [quote from The Grandmaster <一代宗師>]. We finally completed it today! We hope that all beings will overcome hardships and achieve happiness! Happily ever after!”

  1. Be an vegetarian then if you have to devout to buddhist and their insane practices. Even plants are considered a living thing so stop eating them. I believe they eat meats and seafoods so what’s the purpose of releasing animals with life when you turn around and eat their family? If you’re not eating them somebody will somehow. A bounch of BS…that is why I will never be a buddhist…their practice is a death road.

    1. You are very narrow minded. You could say the same thing about christians when they say non believers will not go to heaven. Also the cover up by pedophile priests.and the crusades.

      1. Hit the nail on the head! Those cover ups by pedophile priests….
All good, kind hearted folks will go to heaven regardless of his or belief. Be it Christian, Buddhist, Taoist, etc. Period.

      2. hipocrite,

Just ignore what rei said. I guess rei would definitely slap your face twice if you said that eating shellfish and pork is not allowed according to christianity, or that somebody would still somehow eat shellfish and pork even if you’re not eating them, or that christianity supported slavery, or anything that insulted christianity. Yes, based on rei’s previous comments in jaynestars, I think rei is a christian. A very devout christian. So based on this characteristic, there is no need for you to argue with rei because at the end of the day, you will be seen as somebody who needs help from god. Believe me. I met this type of person every single day in my life when I was raised in California (I’m currently living in asia for a few years if this matters to you, and somehow, I suspect rei is from California as well). This type of christian will keep praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying and praying to god until you share their opinions because they believe praying to god will make you be in agreement with them.

By the way, what I wrote above is about a particular individual as well as a certain type of christian, not the whole christian community.

      3. um hipocrite – why are you dragging Christianity into this?

Rei represents his own mind, others have a mind of their own as well. I am not supporting what Rei says but s/he comments belong to himself/herself. let’s get that straight before you jump off on a tangent and start criticizing another religion!

      4. Hipocrite – just read qwerty comments, i didn’t know Rei was known to be a Christian.

But do want to add, shouldn’t let one individual define how awful a religion is…

I’m a Christian and I believe in mutual respect and people with different beliefs can co-exist peacefully.

      5. @pandamao i brought Christianity believes into the topic because rei was insulting Buddhism.u claim rei cant make insulting remarks about Buddhism but i cant have my own opinions about Christianity?

      6. @hipocrite –

I never agreed to Rei’s statement. His/her own ignorance is his/her problem. I’m offended because you decided to criticize someone else’s religion, just as Rei did. You are equally guilty of being narrow minded.

      7. I think what hipocrite’s initial statement meant was: who are you to judge buddhism when your own religion has its own problem?

After all, what hipocrite said was facts (saying non-believers will not go to heaven…pedophile priests…the crusades) while what rei said was opinions (insane practices…a bounch of BS…a death road). There is a difference between facts and opinions.

      1. Wow. The stupidest comment I’ve seen. This just clearly shows how IGNORANT you are. Not all muslims are associated with terrorist groups. It’s already bad enough they’re mistreated but people like you only make it worse.

      2. That’s just as bad as the comment that “rei” has come up with, if not worse. Not all Muslims are terrorists just as not all Buddhists are good.

Nothing comes to religions when people do bad deeds. It simply is in the person themselves. There is no part in the Quran that says they should be terrorists to be close to their God. It’s simply thoughts of sick minded people blaming it on their religion.

Don’t be so narrow minded and don’t just classify them all as one. It’s ridiculous.

      3. What a narrow minded comment. Muslims are not bad people, it is those particular people that use religion to do bad things. I actually feel bad for the Islamic religion that many are using it as an excuse to do bad things.

      4. I find your statement insulting and ignorant.I have made friends when i was studying who were muslim and they were friendly people. I asked them about questions about their religion like Ramadan, praying a few times a day, the headscarf what women wear hijab , and mecca etc.

      5. 8 out of 10 black guys have guns, you didn’t know until you meet each one of them, on the last 2 guys, wouldn’t you assume they have guns also? It’s not ignorant. It’s just that a large amount of terrorists are muslims.

      6. well according to your logic what about northern ireland. Are all irish terrorists as well?

    2. Be a christian you are criticised. Be a buddhist you are criticised. My advise is don’t be anything and if you want to believe in anything read up on what you are believing in first, if not you sound like rei who is very ignorant who has zero understanding on buddhism.

      1. You will always be criticized by anyone as long as you are being different from them. Nobody can satisfy everybody and make everybody loves them or be in agreement with them. This is how the world works until the world ends.

      2. “This is how the world works until the world ends.”

Reread my own comment after submitting and found out the quote above to be interesting!

    3. I believe religions are good, only the evil inside the people are bad. Just like some like to bash other religion.

Respect others is respecting your own religion (if you have one), and respecting your own self.

      1. No problem with people who are truly religious and keep their faith, just ones who pick and choose what or when they like to practice and preach from their religion when it suits that makes it hard to respect.

    4. Have more respect for others belief! What makes you think yours is the only supreme?! One is only responsible for oneself. Like debt paying…! So…?

    5. Wow. Buddhist practices have never asked that their devotees be vegetarian. If it were possible, do try to eat as plain as possible. It isn’t a MUST to be a vegetarian.

God bless you – whatever belief you have.

    6. I am Buddhist by name but am not religious. However, what rei said is so BS and really disrespectful to any devout Buddhists. Anyways, I just think that people should not let religion get to their head and learn to think for themselves. Basically just be a good person regardless of what religion you are.

    7. Is Buddhism insane? Perhaps but most likely be misinterpreted along the way back from the west to Rei’s (side)cold path.

      1. I’m not a buddhist, but personally, I think buddhism is the least insane religion in this world.

    8. Rei, I agree with you that all living things that life. But, I think what Buddhism meant was living things that has blood.

Irregardless of your belief, you can be a good person.

I’ve seen a lot of people from various walks of religions they’re hypocrites, they talked one thing but do the bad things & asked for forgiveness.

Chritians & Muslims both says they’ll go to heaven if they do good things. Heaven is only meant for the christians & muslims & not others faith?

What you’re comfortable matters most. I think you shouldnt bashed the Buddhists believers, they’ve their believes & so are Hindus, Toaist, Christians, Islam & so forth.

      1. Hi Bloom, Christians do not base on good deeds to go to heaven. It is by God’s grace and acceptance of Jesus Christ. No human can be 100% good to go heaven. I think Islam’s teaching is doing good deeds and it is like keeping scorecard (i read somewhere in a blog Malaysia Today). So it is totally a different beliefs.

      2. Hi Ray, I know by right what you’ve wrote should be the right way. However, a lot of Christians that I met are very fanatic. They too often criticizes other religions especially the Toiast. If you want real stories, I can share a few.

  2. i hope they did not peek into their smartphones too often, these gadgets are oni useful if u can them not the other way round

  3. Have some respect whatever your faith or lack of one. Don’t need to be rude! Most religion teaches us to be good human beings, most often it’s the human themselves that has deviated from it.

    1. Totally agree!! It is usually the person that is bad not the teachings of the religions. What I hate most is those that preach this and that but yet never do it.

      1. @HTS –

Never do it versus try to do it but fail are two different things.

Regardless of what my beliefs are, I will try my best to adhere to my faith and know that even if I try my best, I will fail because it’s hard. But if a stranger asked me, “What does [insert religion] believe in towards [insert controversial topic]?” I will speak on what the ideals are. Whether I can do it or not should not be factored into the equation. Of course, we also have the situation where the stranger never asked about it but goes knocking on doors to educate.

    2. Agree totally. If you have evil in your heart/mind/soul, whatever faith/religion/race you are will be tainted and that’s where all the deviant teachings/practices come from.

  4. No matter which religions you are in, the fundamental belief is the same. At the end is to make you a better person. Be kind to others. Respect elderly. Help people. Contribute back to the society. This is why there are so many charities related to religions. Of course along the way there are some black sheeps but let’s show respect to oneself by showing respect to others first.

    1. Fundamental: Fun-dam-mental?
Respecting the elderly don’t mean everyone held Confucius values.
Those not vegan doesn’t mean they aren’t animal lovers.
Some ppl don’t want or need help and some ppl appreciate privacy or little interaction and prefer less society and many not wish to contributing or take part in social events or cause(s).
Charity got nothing to do with religion.
Often, respect are earned rather than being given.
Most Charities got nothing to do with religion but humanity.

      1. I think charity has a lot to do with religion though … not saying a particular religion is more into charity than the other but simply saying – the art of giving spouted from religions.

    2. agree with ben. respecting others, helping others, etc have nothing to do with religion.
I don’t have a religion and i still do those things.

  5. Apologized if I will offend anyone here. I believed, no matter who you are, Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, any religion… In actual fact we are respecting the same God.
Every religion teaches us almost the same thing. “Do Good Things”.
If you are Christian, Buddhist or Muslim with an evil heart. Still the same… Bad ending. So stop criticized any party here n be holy.
Respecting each of everyone is very important.

  6. To Qwerty, in my eyes christianity’s & islam’s teachings are very similar. Both believers also preach.

Hinduism & Buddhism dont preach eventhough they’re older religions that’s one of the reasons why the believers are not as many compare to christinity & islam.

    1. Hi Bloom, there is a verse in the Bible (New Testament) that commands the believers to spread the Good News…:) But I think the best preaching is how we live our lives which is Christ-like for Christians. You can preach all you can but actions speak louder. People are judging you by your actions and not your words only.

      1. Hi Ray, thanks, I was commenting on the preaching because I’ve met a lot of christians & they often wants to spread their religion to you. I find Buddhism teaching suits me better so I often told them that I’m not interested. I often feel that I dont need you to preach to me, if I’m interested I’ll find out more about the religion myself, I dont like to be forced into believing into something that I find not suitable for myself. So, whenever I bumped into all these people that tried to preach was I told them I’m a christian, else, they kept following you.

  7. I’m surprise we don’t have any post about “White Dragon King’s” death….

When I traveled to Thailand 2 years ago for vacation, my tour guide talked about him. Seemed pretty famous in Thailand, it was the first I heard of him … but after reading publications recently on him, i just realize how famous he was!

  8. God is something that you can’t create because it creates all of us including the universe. It doesn’t have gender, parents or children because it can stand on its own. We can’t see it but it will always be watching at us for all the time. It doesn’t eat, sleep or doing other activity like us did. And there will always be only one God.
