Chilam Cheung and Charmaine Sheh Spark Same Onscreen Chemistry After 15 Years
Fifteen years ago, renowned TVB series Return of the Cuckoo <十月初五的月光> starring Chilam Cheung (張智霖) and Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) achieved an astonishing record in terms of viewership ratings with a peak of 46 points. From that point on, Chilam was dubbed as an ideal romantic man due to his memorable character portrayal, while Charmaine became one of TVB’s top fadans. Now fifteen years later, director Patrick Kong (葉念琛) recruited the original cast to shoot a film version of the series. Viewers are ecstatic for their favourite onscreen couple to return and complete their story with a happy ending.
During an interview with Chilam and Charmaine, the artistes expressed that they have not grown distant despite the time lapse and still spark great onscreen chemistry. Able to immediately absorb themselves back into their roles once the cameras started rolling, they felt as if they had travelled back in time.
Speaking of Charmaine’s change over the years, Chilam remarked, “Fifteen years back, she was really fresh and green. Return of the Cuckoo was her third series, and she was still in her learning stage with much room for improvement. Now, with all her experience as a TV Queen, it’s my turn to learn from her! And I’m also old now! Haha, but I don’t actually think I’ve changed much, since I’m still a child at heart.”
Charmaine laughed and added, “Back then, I had a lot of baby fat and was also very outgoing. Chilam is seriously the same as before in terms of personality and profession-wise. He didn’t change at all!” Other than her physical looks, Charmaine shared that her work attitude has also shifted over the years. “I think a lot more now, and would consider factors such as whether or not a role is suitable for me when I receive new scripts. Back then, I accepted whatever dramas were offered to me.”
Single in status at the moment, Charmaine has been frequently photographed while out on dates with males. However, she explained they are only her friends. In terms of her criteria for a future boyfriend, Charmaine laughed and expressed, “If a man is easily frightened away by the media, I won’t be interested in him. I like men with courage! Of course, the most important thing is good communication. Physical looks aren’t my priority, as long as they look fine to me. But right now, I just can’t seem to find the right person.”

I wouldn’t say that Charmaine still look the same because clearly, she has aged. I did not like her acting and I still don’t like her acting. But I enjoyed this drama a lot. I wish Pui Kin didn’t die, I wish to see his ending with Hoi Lam but… sigh. On the other hand, Chilam really looks the same. Same goes for Nancy Sit.
