Chilam Cheung, Sharon Chan, Fred Cheng Win at “Stars of Weibo 2013”

Chilam Cheung (張智霖), Sharon Chan (陳敏之), Fred Cheng (鄭俊弘), and others attended the Stars of Weibo 2013 Awards, which was held on February 20. The ceremony awards to those who have managed to become the most popular trends in Hong Kong on Weibo last year. TVB became the biggest winner of the night, occupying four spots in the top ten trends of the year.

TVB’s pilot drama Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II> was the highest on the list and reached second place. The 2013 TVB Awards, comedy drama Bounty Lady < My盛Lady>, and reality singing competition The Voice of the Stars <星夢傳奇> also made it to the top ten list.

Chilam’s Wallet Bleeds

Chilam, who starred in Triumph in the Skies 2, was ranked number ten on top ten trendiest Hong Kong celebrities list. He also won the Weibo Trendiest Television Actor award. Chilam said, “Weibo is important. I checked it recently and realized how deep my wounds were. My wife [Anita Yuen] is currently going all out [shopping] in Paris. Meanwhile, I am in Hong Kong striving and working hard. I’m bleeding,” he said with a laugh.

The 42-year-old actor is currently preparing for his new film with Chrissie Chau (周秀娜). Temporarily titled Billionaire Demon Falls for Me <千億惡魔愛上我>, the romantic comedy film is an adaptation of the Hollywood film Pretty Woman starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. Chilam is looking forward to begin work with Chrissie and praised her as Hong Kong’s sex icon. “When I was younger, Hong Kong had a lot of dream lovers and goddesses, such as Brigitte Lin (林青霞), Maggie Cheung (張曼玉), and Cherie Chung (鍾楚紅), but there’s not as many now. Chrissie Chau should be considered as one of the few of today.”

Asked if he would request to add more kissing scenes with Chrissie in the film, Chilam laughed, “Then it’s time for me to blackmail the director! But these requests are ridiculous.”

Sharon Cries for Sammy Leung

Sharon Chan accepted a music award for her single “A Day” <想一天>, a song from her drama Bounty Lady. Currently filming the new TVB action crime drama The Apostle <使徒行者>, Sharon’s costar Sammy Leung (森美) had to withdraw from the cast last minute due to health concerns. Sharon disclosed that his role will be replaced by Sammy Sum (沈震軒).

Sharon stated, “All of the scenes will have to be reshot, but it hasn’t greatly affected the overall production. We just need ten extra days for the reshoot. I am really good friends Sammy [Leung] and I cried when I heard that he was sick. I don’t know how sick or what it is, but I know he’s really busy all the time. With this drama, he literally had no time to sleep. He is a man made of iron with very strong willpower, but maybe he struggled for too long.”

Fred Cheng to Release New Album in July

Fred Cheng, who shot to instant fame after winning on The Voice of the Stars, accepted the award for Weibo’s Trendiest Rookie. He recently signed to the TVB music record label Voice Entertainment and announced that his upcoming Cantonese studio album is expected to drop in July 2014.

Fred, who debuted in 2001 and had struggled as a TVB supporting actor for years, is currently going through a period of adjustment. After his appearance in The Voice of the Stars, Fred’s schedule became packed with jobs, increasing his income. He revealed that he recently completed the filming of a new TVB drama and is currently working on his new studio album.

“I want more. I’m not afraid of getting no sleep. I want to be even busier. The more jobs the better,” Fred admitted.
