Chilam Cheung Will Not Attend TVB’s Anniversary Gala

Yesterday, Chilam Cheung (張智霖) held an autograph signing session for his new album Time of the Moment, a limited edition CD single that comes with a 24-page photobook. The CD single, which consists of Chilam’s rendition of Triumph in the Skies <衝上雲霄> theme “Songs of Years Gone By <歲月如歌> and an instrumental of “Fly Me to the Moon”, only had 3,900 copies printed.

Due to a schedule clash, Chilam expressed his regret for not being able to attend the TVB Anniversary Gala, which will be held on November 19. “I know that there will be a lot of prizes handed out that night. I really want to win one myself, but I guess I’ll just have to leave these opportunities for my colleagues.”

Chilam is a popular favorite to win Best Actor at the TVB Awards, as his drama Triumph in the Skies 2 still ranks as the number-one highest-rated drama of the year. Despite the series ratings success, the pilot drama was criticized for being unrealistic. Chilam said, “As actors there is only so much we can do. We work on our appearances and portrayals. It’s hard for us to handle the research or creative aspects of the script too. We’re not producers. However, I’m sure that there were some situations in the series that real-life pilots and air hostesses could relate to.”

Oceane Zhu Unable to Perform at TVB Anniversary Gala

The TVB Anniversary Gala is often a star studded event, where TVB artists get a chance to shine in the various performances.. Oceane Zhu (朱璇) was signed on to appear in a dance segment for TVB’s Gala Anniversary, but she pulled herself out of the performance last minute, citing health reasons. “I was just released from the hospital. I was vomiting, fainting and had to be admitted to the hospital. The doctor told me that I have gastritis and family history of heart problems. I’m not suitable to do any intense exercise.”

  1. Can’t wait to watch it.

Others can hate all they want. But for sure, TVB artists should be daummm happy that they didn’t go to HKTV.

    1. 8pm Hong Kong time …. 2.5 hour of non-stop chocolate prizes for underpaid tvb slave workers.

      1. Oh no I think I missed it as I thought it was supposed to be on the weekends.. Where do I view d repeat?

      2. Hahaha…though I disagree with the ‘underpaid tvb slave workers’ part — after all, Liza Wang DID win a major prize AGAIN at last night’s gala (add that prize to the one she won last year and the year before and the years prior to that). It should technically be ‘underpaid tvb slave workers plus the rich and famous Liza Wang’….LOL.

  2. so.. the two biggest competitor Francis Ng and Chilam is not attending…

Well, Hi Kenneth! you’re the 2nd line up for the best actor award then:)

      1. Yup…Fox is right…attendance at the Anniversary gala doesn’t mean much anymore, especially since the awards show was separated from the gala back in 2005. Actually, if you look at the Anniversary Galas since then (2005 onward), there really hasn’t been much ‘star presence’ there anyway….this year is probably the first time in 8 years that the gala was attended by all of TVB’s artists…to me, it’s definitely a sign that TVB is trying to pull out all the stops to salvage its image….

      2. Pretty much, the ‘real’ determining factor will be on awards night when we see who shows up for THAT ceremony and who doesn’t…

  3. Am I the only one who thinks Power Chan should win Most Improved for his role in Will Power?

    1. you are not the only one. an award for Power has been long overdue.

    2. Power Chan should win Most Improved for his role in Will Power?
      ————————————————————-
I don’t think so. Power Chan is always good in acting his roles, especially in “The Confidant”. He did well in “Will Power”, but his screen time wasn’t a lot. Moreover, if Power Chan wins any award, it should be “Best Supporting Actor”, not “Most Improved Actor”. He is not “Most Improved” because he has been so good in acting his roles for many years.

      1. Agree – very well said.

I don’t think anyone else is a better candidate than Power Chan to win best supporting actor!

      2. Power chan is good. His brother in will power, Vincent Wong, did well too.

    3. Hell no! Giving Power Chan the ‘most improved’ award (which most people liken to a ‘best newcomer’ award) is a slap in the face for him! At his level, he should be contending for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ AT THE VERY MINIMUM!

Besides, Power is already WAY BEYOND the ‘improving’ level because he’s always been consistently good with his acting. Even back in the late 80s/early 90s when he debuted, he was already good…if he were to be placed in ‘Most Improved’ category, I’m sure most of us would feel hugely insulted!
