“Chimera” Opens to One Percent Ratings
OCN’s murder mystery drama, Chimera, premiered on October 30 and was shockingly met with only 1 percent in viewership ratings. With a formidable cast including Squid Game’s Park Hae Soo, Mouse’s Lee Hee Joon, and Hollywood actress Kim Soo Hyun, Chimera was expected to attract higher ratings. However, many were caught off guard due to its sudden premiere and lack of promotions.
The drama envelops viewers in a dark world, where a horrific serial murder crime known as “Chimera” that occurred in 1984, takes the police force by its throat again with the exact events returning 35 years later in 2019. A crime described to be as vicious as the three-headed monster “Chimera” of Greek mythology leads violent crimes detective Cha Jae Hwan (Park Hae Soo), criminal profiler Eugene Hathaway (Kim Soo Hyun), and surgeon Lee Joong Yeop (Lee Hee Joon) to team up and track down the criminal responsible for these two cases.
Globally recognized for their phenomenal performances, Hae Soo, Hee Joon, and Soo Hyun were expected to create a blockbuster with their chemistry and versatile acting. Thus, the lack of ratings from the beginning can only be blamed on OCN, who failed to raise greater attention for the show.
Fortunately, word-of-mouth and overdue buzz brought Chimera back to the spotlight as fans expressed their support for the promising plot. With increasingly positive reviews after the premiere, hopefully ratings would increase in future episodes.
