Choi Jin Hyuk Goes on Hiatus After Breaking COVID-19 Restrictions
Zombie Detective and Rugal actor Choi Jin Hyuk halted his activities after he was caught violating South Korea’s level four social distancing rules on October 6.
According to reports, Jin Hyuk was arrested by local police at approximately 8:20 p.m. at a bar in Samseong-dong, Gangnam. There were 51 people present at the scene, which were all found to have violated South Korea’s virus prevention guidelines. Currently, only two people are allowed to privately gather after 6 p.m., and any entertainment venues such as bars and clubs are prohibited to open.
Two days after the incident, Jin Hyuk’s agency G-Tree Creative released a formal apology explaining that the actor unknowingly visited a bar that was illegally opened, and is deeply sorry for his ignorant behavior. They stated, “Jin Hyuk violated regulations while meeting with an acquaintance who took him to a bar that he was told would open until 10 p.m. He was unaware the bar was illegally operating, and is very ashamed of his ignorance. He understands there is no excuse for his behavior, and will self-reflect heavily to ensure it won’t happen again.”
The actor also personally made a post on his Instagram apologizing to everyone who supported him. He wrote, “I have to apologetically bow my head to everyone. I did not think that believing the words of my acquaintance so easily would lead to such unforgivable behavior. It is my fault, and I am extremely sorry for my actions. I am aware that everyone is working hard to overcome the difficulties, especially the frontline medical staff who are holding up our country. I am deeply ashamed as I have disappointed many who displayed their faith in me.”
Following the incident, Jin Hyuk stepped down from SBS’s popular show My Little Old Boy, and all his footage filmed to date were edited out.
