Chris Wang Promises to Never Make Appearance Again

Convicted for forced indecent assault of a female colleague, Taiwanese artiste Chris Wang (宥勝) recently made a high-profile video announcement on April 7 about his upcoming Earth Day (April 22) comeback. His wife, Purple Lin (林慈惠) also expressed her strong support in a post saying, “I have always believed that love can overcome everything.” However, their statements sparked widespread backlash, prompting the couple to take down the video and the supportive post.
Issues Statement Outlining Future Actions
In response, Chris issued a statement saying, “Please stop attacking innocent people. I will take full responsibility for my actions.” He also announced that he will no longer carry out any activities under the name “You Sheng”
The 42-year-old actor and host, who garnered fame with the likes of hit drama The Fierce Wife <犀利人妻> and variety show The King of Adventure <冒險王>, laid out three commitments in his handwritten statement:
1. Retiring the name “You Sheng”:
He will no longer take part in any endorsements, performances, or brand collaborations. He stated that the name and reputation he once held should no longer be used for personal gain.
2. Donating his social media platforms:
Wang will hand over control of all his social media accounts — including the Chris Wang Journey Facebook page (@chriswang609), his Instagram account (@youshengwang), and his YouTube channel Where’s Chris Wang? (@chriswang609) — to professionals in gender studies, psychology, and education. These platforms will be transformed into public resources for promoting gender equality and trauma recovery.
Acknowledging that some might not value his platforms, Chris pointed out that 76% of his followers are women, many of whom are mothers, and he believes this reach can help in advocating gender equality. He added, “Anyone interested can message me — I will fully transfer management rights”.
3. Quietly committing to real reparative action:
“I will contribute in my own way to the promotion of education on gender respect, sexual assault prevention, victim support, and the de-stigmatization of survivors. But I will no longer report these efforts to the public. I hope that quiet dedication can allow genuine goodwill to be fulfilled.”
Chris Wang emphasized that these actions do not entitle him to forgiveness, nor are they a one-time fix, but represent a fundamental shift in the course of his life.
“This incident reminded me: some people spend their entire lives repairing the wounds others have inflicted on them. That’s why I must use the rest of my life to heal the pain I have caused. I do not expect forgiveness. I only hope that the choices and commitments I make now can steer things in a more meaningful direction.”
Thanking everyone who has read his statement “whether or not (they) choose to believe him, he thanked those who had once supported him, and ended his page-long statement with the salutation “Gratefully Chris Wang – who will never appear again”.
