Cindy Au Faces Criticism after Announcing Divorce
After ending their 18-year marriage, Roger Kwok (郭晋安) and Cindy Au (歐倩怡) remained cordial for the sake of their children. While Roger was busy filming dramas, Cindy found a new job as a university research assistant.
On Barry Yip’s (葉文輝) talk show, Cindy talked about her new lifestyle. Since he has known Cindy for more than 20 years, Barry shared, “In my mind, Cindy is someone who is very genuine. After she had a family, she disappeared from our line of work. Now that she is working again, her lifestyle has gone through a lot of changes. Besides chatting with her today, I want to take this chance to tell her to add oil. Whenever anyone deals with their problems, there is definitely frustrations as well as happy and unhappy moments. Cindy is someone who will only share the positive things and good news.”
Cindy admitted that although she is always smiling, the smile is sometimes used to hide inner turmoil. After announcing her divorce, Cindy suffered a lot of criticism and negative press.
“When I posted about our divorce, I didn’t say anything else or accept any interviews, but people already started criticizing me,” Cindy said “I was really unhappy and felt like my heart was breaking. It was as if I did or said something wrong. Some people would pretend to know me and say negative things about me. I clearly did not know who that person was, so why are they pretending to know me?”
To get through the rough times, Cindy confided in her Christian friends. “I know a lot of friends from church and my pastor as well. They messaged to check in on me.”
When Cindy started tearing up, Barry comforted her, “Everyone will go through their own difficult issues. It is through experiencing these things that will ultimately make us grow. Hopefully, the public will not pass judgment based on what they see on the surface and believe to be true.”
