Cutie Mui Embraces Being Single: “Romance is Not the Only Thing in Life”
In the 1990s, Cutie Mui (梅小惠) was a well-known TVB comedic actress and was recognized for her role in Virtues of Harmony <皆大歡喜>. After leaving TVB, Cutie became an entrepreneur and recently opened her own tea shop in Guangzhou. To congratulate on her new business, her best friend, Louis Yuen (阮兆祥) helped promote her business.
Louis Promised to Marry Cutie?
Cutie and Louis met after working together in Enjoy Yourself Tonight <歡樂今宵> and their friendship has spanned over 30 years . In 1999, when Cutie and actor Savio Tsang (曾偉權) broke up after dating for 13 years, Louis stepped in to comfort Cutie and even lived with Cutie for a month to look after her.
During that time, Louis promised Cutie that if she remains single at the age of 50, he will marry her. Although they didn’t marry in the end, Louis has since explained that they never had romantic feelings for each other, “We are like brothers, and see each other as family. We would have dinner with each other and our families. That statement was to comfort Cutie’s family. Because Cutie just broke up at that time, I was scared that her family would be worried, so I said it to comfort them.”
Remaining Single is a Life Choice
In 2003, Cutie’s father sadly passed away from a heart attack and this has affected her outlook of life. She shared that she was the happiest before she was in her thirties. In her forties, Cutie’s life took a depressing turn when she had her major relationship break up and lost her father. Therefore in her fifties, Cutie will be more grateful and cherish what she has.
With more maturity and life experiences, Cutie admitted that when she was in her thirties, she was dating with the mentality that “Everyone is dating, so should I.” With her present self, she understands that being single is also a life choice.
After Cutie’s relationship ended, she admitted that she vented her emotions. However, soon Cutie realized that what she really needed was to learn how to live happier and thus, Cutie will not let herself be depressed because of her failed relationship. With wisdom, Cutie shared, “Romance is not the only thing in life.”
True to her words, Cutie is keeping busy and enjoying her life. Since leaving TVB, Cutie started her own public relations company and occasionally appears in large scale variety shows or talk shows. Now Cutie is balancing her life as a grandaunt and managing her new restaurant.
