Daniel Wu Films “Cold War” Prequel

Fans of Hong Kong top-grossing HK crime blockbuster Cold War <寒戰> have reason to cheer, as two prequels were announced at the beginning of the year, set in 1994 and 1995 respectively.

Daniel Shares What He “Misses Most” When Filming Back Home

Keeping details tightly under wraps since cameras started rolling, the production unit of the Cold War prequel <寒戰前傳> only announced its main cast line-up comprising HK Film Award-winning trio, Daniel Wu (吳彥祖), Wu Kang-ren (吳慷仁) and Terrance Lau (劉俊謙), while teasing the unveiling of other “heavyweight” cast, heightening movie fans’ anticipation for the production!

Shifting his career focus to Hollywood in recent years, Daniel still feels nostalgic about the local productions through which he gained public recognition.  Turns out that one of the things he misses most is local food, which he called “one of the things I really missed!”

Hainanese Chicken Rice, pig’s trotter and preserved radish, a side of choy sum greens and “less sweet” Ice Lemon Tea, a local signature beverage.

After filming kicked off, Daniel had returned to the States briefly for work and road racing, one of his passions. The 49-year-old also shared a photo of his bento lunchbox in HK previously, when he appeared to dine from a scenic spot on the top floors of The Peninsula Hong Kong.

His lunch of steamed chicken rice and a luncheon sandwich not only showcased his love for local delicacies, but also appeared to reflect his upgraded “perks” as one of the film’s three leading actors.

“Cold War 1994” Updates

While the three leads’ roles in the prequel were unknown, production crew had revealed that Tony Leung Ka Fai‘s (梁家輝) Li Wenbin and Chang Guo Chu‘s (張國柱) former police commissioner role Peter Choi Yuen-kei would be making their appearance – prompting fan speculation that Daniel will appear as younger version of Peter Choi, Wu Kang-ren would be player a younger Li Wenbin, while Terrence will star as the younger version of Aaron Kwok‘s (郭富城) character, Deputy Commissioner Sean Lau.

Meanwhile, Malaysian actress Fish Liew (廖子妤) accidentally revealed herself as lead actress after uploading a photo of herself “served” by several makeup artistes at once on social media.
