Dante Lam’s New Film to Star Eddie Peng and Carlos Chan
After the box office record-breaking hit that was his last film Operation Red Sea <紅海行動>, Dante Lam (林超賢) is ready to bring on the next big blockbuster.
The Rescue <緊急救援>, an action-packed film about a sea rescue during the typhoon, will feature Lam’s frequent collaborator Eddie Peng (彭于晏), who also starred in films Unbeatable <激戰>, To the Fore <破風>, and Operation Mekong <湄公河行動>. Also starring in the film will be Huading’s Best New Actor Carlos Chan (陳家樂) and Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace <如懿傳> actress Xin Zhilei (辛芷蕾). Production is expected to wrap up by May 2019.
Collaborating with Eddie Peng again, Dante Lam said, “It’s him who keeps bothering me. He’s always asking me when my next film would be!” Eddie shared that The Rescue will be yet another action-packed masterpiece, and that the cast have already been training in Xiamen for several days.
Carlos Chan said, “I won’t start the film until January. I’ve worked with Director Lam before for To the Fore, and I know how strict he is with his demands. I will definitely prepare myself well during this time. Regardless of how busy I am, I’ll make sure to prepare extra time to train myself, so I’ll be in my best shape for the film.
In regard to the production of The Rescue, Dante Lam said he is extremely thankful to EEG chairman Albert Yeung (楊受成), who has been supporting his films since 2008’s Beast Stalker <証人>. Lam said it was Albert who gave him the encouragement and opportunity to continue making films during a time when he thought his career was over.
Lam’s 2018 film, Operation Red Sea, grossed over 3.6 billion yuan in China, becoming the second-highest grossing film ever in China. It is also the ninth highest-grossing film worldwide in 2018. Dante Lam won Best Director at the Hundred Flowers Awards, and the film won Best Picture.
