Dayo Wong and Carina Lau Star in “The Truth About Lying”

Dayo Wong (黃子華) and Carina Lau (劉嘉玲) appeared at a press conference for their upcoming theater play The Truth About Lying <香港式離婚>. It will premiere in December at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and run for 40 shows.

The play is written by Wong Wing Sze (黃詠詩), produced by Joe Wong (王耀祖) and also stars Harriet Yeung (楊詩敏), Kate Yeung (楊淇), and Leung Ho Bong (梁浩邦).

Originally, Dayo hoped to have an entire cast of theater actors because they were all “broke” and could use the money. Also, Dayo’s first job was an actor at the Hong Kong Repertory Theater. However the stars aligned and he ended up convincing Carina to be the female lead. The scriptwriter and producer agreed she was the best person to play such a unique character.

Carina had initially rejected the offer, “I like plays–they’re full of mystery and energy but I give myself too much pressure every time. At this point in life, I want to be more comfortable so when I received the offer, I adamantly refused. Once I learned Dayo was part of the production, I changed my mind and said I could think about it.”

Meeting with Dayo and the creative team, Carina was captivated by the actor’s unique charisma. After considering for several months, Carina decided she needs to continuously accept challenges and accept a good script and acting partner. Dayo joked that you need patience to wait for someone who does not need money.
