Denice Lam Clarifies Dating Rumors

In June, Miss Hong Kong 2022 winner Denice Lam (林鈺洧) was rumored to be dating Winnie Chin’s (錢慧儀) ex- husband Philip Ma (馬清揚) despite their large age difference. Denice’s car was seen at his luxury home at the Peak and it is said that they are often hanging out or eating at Lan Kwai Fong. In an interview, Philip had praised Denice for being pure but emphasized that he is single and it was normal to interact with the opposite gender.

Since the rumors, Denice kept a low profile. At the rehearsal for Miss Hong Kong 2024, she shared she has not been intentionally avoiding the media. She has been focusing on work filming for Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛．回家之開心速遞>. Her face flushed red as she denied dating and stated it was a misunderstanding. She emphasized she has never been to Philip’s home. She shared they had met at a charity event after she won the pageant and they had been eating dinner as friends.

“We’re just normal friends. I will eat dinner one-on-one with many other friends as well. I don’t feel that Philip is pursuing me romantically.” Reporters noted Philip had previously asked for the media to give them some space and Denice clarified that she thought he meant to give her some space to work hard.

Although Philip and Winnie’s divorce has not yet been finalized, Denice shared that she will not investigate the person’s background when becoming friends. It was only until the news came out that she realized he had so many stories. She clarified she does not feel wronged, “I’m just focused on keeping my head down and working hard. I will not interfere with others’ personal matters and it’s none of my business either. I only like working and I’m very grateful for the opportunities that the company has given me. I won’t think about dating, I’m very grateful for the opportunity to film for Come Home Love and variety shows. If I’m not filming then I’m working out at the gym. My friends of the opposite sex are all scared of me, they’re scared the media will say we’re dating so I have no friends now.”

Reporters continued to ask if Denice can accept dating a man much older than her, but she reiterated that she was a workaholic and has not given it any thought.

Admitting to being in contact with Philip since the news broke out, Denice said they have not met up in person. She was worried the company would misunderstand and that this would affect her career. She drew a clear line as she said, “I’m able to let go of anyone easily. If they threaten my job then we have nothing to talk about.” She stated again that as long as she has work, she will not date.
