Denice Lam Was Not Invited to “Miss Hong Kong Charity Association”?
Miss Hong Kong 2022 winner Denice Lam (林鈺洧) is plagued with negative gossip since the pageantry and was revealed to be not invited to the Wai Yin Association (慧妍雅集) which gathers Miss Hong Kong winners and contestants for charitable work. It was rumored that Denice’s negative press deemed her not suitable in upholding Miss Hong Kong’s image.
Historically, the winner of Miss Hong Kong is required to fulfill their duties as an ambassador for Hong Kong and engage in charitable work by joining the Wai Yin Association under the current president Nicole Lee (李潔瑩) who is also actor Lai Lok Yi’s (黎諾懿) wife.
Since the pageantry, Denice was thrown to the center of several gossip that shattered her image. Before the pageantry, the beauty queen confessed to having five sexual partners on ViuTV Program Abracadabra <對號入座>. Further more, the tabloid reported that Denice owed credit card bill of more than $500,000 Hong Kong dollar and sought to win the pageantry to pay off her debt. Later, Denice was force to deny being in a sex tape and filed a report with the police.
It was reported that Denice was looking forward to joining the association; however, many of the members felt that Denice’s image was not a good fit and voted to not to extend her an invitation. Interestingly, the association had been strict with their membership and invited Miss Hong Kong 2022 second-runner up Joey Leung (梁超怡).
Nicole’s Response
In an interview, Nicole explained that procedure to join the association. Nicole shared that applicants must be recommended or self-nominated to join and then pass an interview. Nicole added, “We never received [Denice’s] application and no one has recommended her. We welcome members to join and those who are interested in charity work are welcome.”
Denice has yet to respond to interview request.
Sandy Lau Nominated Many Contestants
An insider revealed that Miss Hong Kong 2009 winner and former Wai Yin Association President Sandy Lau (劉倩婷) played a big role in inviting Joey and Cecca Xu (許子萱) to the association. It was rumored that Sandy worked hard to persuade Cecca to join despite the Cecca’s indifference to be affiliated to Miss Hong Kong.
Sandy however clarified that she did not specifically receive Cecca’s application and denied having many meals together. Sandy shared that she and Cecca became acquainted after working on a short film together. Sandy also shared that Joey asked to join the association and is now a current member.
Miss Hong Kong 2019 winner Carmaney Wong (黃嘉雯) and Miss Hong 2021 winner Sabrina Mendes (宋宛穎) were also nominated by Sandy. In an interview, Carmaney shared, “I did a show with Sandy’s husband Lee Shing Chak (李丞責) and then I met Sandy. She recommended to go for an interview. After the interview, they accepted me as a member of the association.”
Similarly, Sabrina shared how Sandy helped her join the association, “I had a staycation when I competed in the pageantry. Coincidentally, I was in Sandy’s group and she was my mentor and that’s how she recommended me to join.”
When Sabrina was asked if she knew no one nominated Denice to join the association, Sabrina responded, “Maybe they don’t know her. Basically, it’s hard to get in touch with them. You have to have build a connection first.”

Who care this snob association… money money money peoples
This whatever association does not come off as being for the people versus being for the association so they can feel good about themselves
This association sounds more like a sorority than anything. I mean good for them to do charity work whenever they do but for the most part, I think it’s a lot of mingling and networking which is quite pretentious. I don’t think Denise is your stereotypical MHK winner. Personally, I don’t think she is well rounded enough like most contestants are but I really admire her authenticity. She seems very real and down to earth, and not someone that knows how to shmooze to get ahead (like Cecca Xu and Joey Leung for example) which unfortunately doesn’t garner you any favors or popularity among those that form cliques like this Wai Yin Association. But I don’t think Denise minds. I saw her interview about not joining the association. She said no one invited her and she didn’t nominate herself but it doesn’t matter because at the end of the day, it’s about doing charity. And as long as you are doing the right thing you don’t have to be a part of any organization to be doing charitable work. She said she has personally been doing charity work for some time now on her own. And I’m not sure if I recall correctly, she might have said she started her own charity group too but again not sure because I don’t remember. Anyway, I really like her. She is genuine. Probably won’t get ahead in the entertainment field but I don’t think she cares too much about that. As long as she is a good person that lives an honest life with integrity, then I think she is content with whatever her life brings her. People like that who don’t chase after fame and fortune even after winning a championship is rare. She is a gem.
There is so many melons about her negative news…Your positive opinion is definitely interesting… There is always 2 sides to stories… it is good to read someone speaking out for her. I dont know her much as I dont follow her news but I do know her childhood was not easy. She lived in UK for most of her childhood. No wonder she is so open and speaks her mind.
